Book Description

From the land of Persepolis comes a legend of its beginning. The Persian Empire basks in splendor, unaware of the plot hatching within its own government. The long-lost Jewels of Gilgamesh are being made into a terrible weapon against the Emperor. Jamshid is miserable at school and to add to his troubles his parents have hired a tutor. While Jamshid dreams of magical creatures and argues with his parents, the “Mountain of Light” is mysteriously stolen. Jamshid’s life unravels as he loses his family and flees for his life. He encounters a legendary homa, and discovers he is capable of more than he thought. The question is: is he capable of saving the empire? “Jamshid and the Lost Mountain of Light” is a unique blend of fantasy and ancient history, seen through the eyes of a boy growing up in the palaces of Ancient Persia. "…one of the most enchanting children's books" Darius Kadivar, Payvand.com Best Children’s Book – Persian Golden Lioness Awards.

About the Author

Howard Lee spent his childhood in Kenya before moving to the UK. His lifelong fascination with Persia (Iran) began when he first met his Persian wife in London. Lee wrote and illustrated “Jamshid and the Lost Mountain of Light” after a visit to Persepolis, in Iran. He was inspired by the sight of his son Daniel gazing through the same windows that the biblical Daniel may have looked through, some 2500 years ago. For the novel Lee blended his personal observations in Persepolis and elsewhere in Iran with historical research and memories of long African ‘safaris’. After favourable reviews, Howard Lee was awarded a Persian Golden Lioness Award for Best Children’s Book in Budapest, Hungary, in 2006. Lee now lives in New Jersey USA, with his wife and two sons, writing, volunteering for the Boy Scouts, and lecturing about Ancient Persia and Iranian heritage.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book for kids who love adventure, June 17, 2008
This review is from: Jamshid and the Lost Mountain of Light (Paperback)
This is a great book for kids who love adventure stories. My 10-year old could not put it down. It has humor, excitment, history and more. She loved the story, the characters and the setting and learned a great deal about a period and geography in history of which she knew little. She has rated this book among her favorites. A definite must read!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Could See It Happening In My Mind, May 27, 2011
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Jamshid and the Lost Mountain of Light (Paperback)
Jamshid and the Lost Mountain of Light is one of my favorite books. It is definitely a tie with the Harry Potter series, which I also strongly recommend. Jamshid and the Lost Mountain of Light has so much color and flavor to it, with not too much happening at one time or too little. Perfect.
I could paint pictures in my mind and imagine everything that was happening. It had details that made it real, and made it seem like it was happening to me, as if I were Jamshid. It starts with something almost completely different at the beginning, then it all seeps into the main plot, just like what I try to do when I write.
I'm trying not to give away much about the plot, but it's so exciting that I must tell you a little! The main character is named Jamshid, and at the beginning he's a a normal boy with a normal life. Then, he gets a tutor and everything starts to get different, VERY different. He is a retired tutor and has a tremendous amount of wisdom. He has agreed to teach Jamshid, and after that things get wacko......
There is much more to his life than anybody else's life, I'll tell you that. It's a fantasy, it could never have happened in reality and never will, but I believe it is based on the ancient Persian myths. I think any child my age and older should read this beautifully written book.

5.0 out of 5 stars With a homa by your side, you can do anything ...., March 17, 2008
This review is from: Jamshid and the Lost Mountain of Light (Paperback)
Here is an adventure story that is truly original. We are taken to live in Persepolis for a while as the unfolding drama combines the mythology of Ancient Persia with brilliantly researched historical detail, but the young hero has the same troubles and difficulties as any kid today, and this makes his struggle and eventual triumph very personal to the reader. In the same way the author brings into sharp focus the parallels between the Persian Empire modern superpowers.
