5.0 out of 5 stars Surfin' Music
It's fun to go back and listen to this music. Two songs predate Dean to the time when Arnie sang with Jan. The music is certainly from a more care-free, simpler era and puts some fun back into life for a short while.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very dissapointing
I'm one of Jan & Dean's biggest fans. However, I think that this CD is a very dissapointing collection. 2.0 out of 5 stars Very dissapointing, October 19, 2000

This review is from: Jan & Dean - All-Time Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I'm one of Jan & Dean's biggest fans. However, I think that this CD is a very dissapointing collection. First of all, regardless of the fact that the cover says "original recordings," the version of "Surf City" included here is most definitely NOT the original recording. It doesn't even sound like Jan & Dean who are singing on this song. I have no idea where they found that recording of Surf City, but it sounds nothing like the original hit that is played on the radio! Secondly, the version of "Deadman's Curve" which is included here is the album version, which sounds quite different from the single version. It was the single version which actually became the hit and got played on the radio. The version of "Jennie Lee" included here is a re-corded version that Jan & Dean did in 1960. It is not the original hit single from 1958 (actually released as "Jan & Arnie"), and once again, is not the version that is played on the radio. If you're looking to hear the original Jan & Dean HITS as you would hear them on the radio, or on the original 45's, this collection is not what you are looking for.

I agree with "A music fan" that some of these songs are not the original recordings, even though it says so on the cover. I'm tossing this one out to buy a different one.

sorry gary but the 1st two reviews were spot on. i have a "greatest
surf hits" CD that contains the original "surf city". not sure why
the record label didn't use the original. didn't notice
the changes in "dead man's curve" and "jennie lee" , though.

This is the real thing. The good old days of Jan & Dean and it is the original recordings not a re-recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars I feel like I am at the beach, October 14, 1998
This review is from: Jan & Dean - All-Time Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I used Jan and Dean to kill the time while mowing the yard as a kid. Their music helped to pass the three hour task. Turning sharp corners in the grass like "dead man's Curve". Twenty years later I am buying the CD to get me through days as a traveling salesman. Singing the words to "surfer girl" will always brighten my day on the road.
