I bought the JanSport Coltrane waist pack on blind faith - haven't seen one before and there were only 3 reviews posted here. When it arrived, I was a little skeptical because it looked smaller than I thought it would be, and it didn't have water bottle holders like it should. And then I started opening zippers - there are six! The long zipper on the under side is actually to allow the bag to expand to a higher capacity - very clever. The two side zippers expose the mesh bottle holders - also very clever. The three top zippers open up three compartments. There is a fourth un-zippered compartment on the outside that looks to be for a cell-phone, ipod, energy bar, keys or any such thing. All of these features make for a very versatile pack. You can expand it as needed for more stuff, contract it if not needed, get the bottle holders out of the way if not needed, and stuff different items in separate compartments for easier retrieval. The two side support pads are well cushioned for good support and comfort. There are also two straps from the back edges of the pack that connect to the two padded side support pads for extra support and stability. The waist straps and buckles are large/wide, also for good support and comfort. This pack will easily handle all my goodies for a long day hike - camera, two water bottles, lunch, snacks and an extra shirt or wind breaker, yet can be compacted when some of the gear is left behind. I'm very glad I got this bag. By the way, it looks slightly different in appearance than the one pictured on Amazon. It doesn't have the large numerals "7.0" as pictured. No big deal for me.
