5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely durable
I've had this bag for a year now and it still impresses me with it's durability! I'm a student so I pack an incredible amount of books all over the city and any other bag would start to show wear from the load but this one is still good as new. Also the pockets are very handy. My only complaint is that the fabric tends to stain easily, but this could probably be avoided...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great capacity, Poor weight distribution
I can easily fit my laptop as well as several books in this bag, but if I carry more than one textbook along with my laptop, it is painful to carry the bag. Regardless if I position the bag across my body or on just one shoulder, it does not seem to distribute weight well or offer sufficient support. If you don't have a lot to carry I would recommend this bag. Easy to...

5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile messenger bag, January 18, 2007
I love this bag - it is sturdy and holds a lot in a compact space. There is a padded inner compartment for your laptop with plenty of extra room for files or books. The fabric is good quality. I don't know why they call the color purple mash as you can see from the picture it is really quite pink. I also don't know why they call it a backpack when it is clearly a messenger bag. Other than these quibbles with the copy writer, I highly recommend this bag.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elefunk Messenger Bag, January 20, 2009
I purchased this bag for my partner who is pursuing college. He absolutely loves this bag. There are a number of zippered compartments on the body of the bag. The front flap also has a small pocket for easy access externally which, is secured by clips that attach to the bottom of the bag. Beneath the flap is another zippered compartment that is very handy. It has a number of pockets, a key ring, among other areas to keep yourself organized, this zippered area provides a secure place to carry a wallet or music player without having the worry of being pick-pocketed. We live in Chicago and this is a wonderful commuter bag as well. The strap has an adjustable pad for heavier loads as well as a padded back for wearing while biking. There is also a netted external pouch for bottles. The main compartment of the bag is secured by a long zipper that runs the length of the opening and also has a padded divider for occasionally transporting any size laptop. It was money well spent, as he'll be sure to use the bag for years to come. I hope this helps in your decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good bag for a college student, March 8, 2006

I use this bag for my books and supplies, and recently my laptop. Yes, there are problems with weight distribution, but it's a messenger bag, and that's to be expected. Lots of space for all of my stuff. Jansport is a reputable brand, and the product has performed well for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars JanSport quality is definitely going down..., February 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I originally got this bag about 6 years ago (in 2003). It was perfect, there were so many little pockets that you could organize everything you needed. Plus, it doesn't look huge, but it holds ALOT of stuff.

I purchased another one for my boyfriend recently (Fall 2008) b/c he was so in love with my bag. The design in generally the same, but the quality of the material has seriously deteriorated. You can tell the fabric is made of much cheaper stuff. The front zip pocket use to have a compartment to slide things into, but it now just sown directly onto the bag (eliminating a good partition in front pocket). There is also this tiny piece of fabric sown on as a 'handle' to use to carry it, but it's so feeble, it's not really much of an improvement.

If you didn't know what the old one was like, I'd still say it was a pretty good bag...nice colors options now too, but clearly cutting back on the quality of the materials and workmanship.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Immortal Backpack., December 25, 2010
This review is from: JanSport Elefunk Core Series Messenger (Apparel)
I'm a Junior in College, I've seen a lot of backpacks in my life time. I've had one that broke the first day of high school, ones that I had to sew back together and some that barely lasted through the school year.

So last year when my Mother asked me what I wanted for Christmas I told her I wanted a back pack. She and I went online searching for one with the best ratings that was a messenger bag and then I left it up to her to pick one. This is the one she picked-and can I just say: She couldn't have made a better choice!

This bag has lasted like a dream for an entire year of very heavy college wear. It has withstood over five textbooks at a time, plus a waterbottle on the side (love that!). The back has a nicely padded section that I deeply appreciate so I don't have my massive textbooks slapping me in the leg every time I walk. The shoulder guard on the arm of the bag is also very nice, spreading out the disgusting amount of weight I allow to be held in my bag over my shoulder so I don't get a highly attractive red mark on my shoulder like I've gotten from previous bags. The compartment for a laptop is nice, though I didn't have a lap top until recently, it served nicely for protecting my more fragile books-keeping them in a place all their own. It is very well organized and extremely durable. Though I've had it for a year it shows no sign of damage or wear (and I'm not exactly all that gentle with it). Jansport made this bag for a college student. It is capable to carry just about however much you need (and I carry a lot). You can slap it around, drop it, trip over it (no comment) and it'll still look great! I would reccomend this to anyone and EVERYONE who needs a bag for work, school or anything else.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy backpack, October 2, 2007
This product is an excellent option for carrying textbooks. I typically carry about 20lbs of books, with no apparent strain on the bag. Moreover, there are plenty of separate compartments for organizational purposes. Overall, for the price this is a solid product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Big, July 27, 2007
Be careful when buying this bag. It is much larger than it appears. I was looking for a bag to use for college for carrying around my books, and when I got this I was very disappointed. It is extremely wide, and I'm not sure what kind of textbook or laptop would be that wide. It would not be suitable for easy, on the go, carrying or biking. Be forewarned.
