Product Features

  • Center-free design creates through holes by cutting only the periphery of the hole for greater productivity in comparison to twist drills
  • Multiple cutting edges create a high-quality hole that minimizes the need for secondary operations such as pre-drilling and reaming
  • Carbide-tipped cutting edges can be run at higher speeds than high-speed or cobalt steel, offering increased wear resistance and suitability for high cutting temperatures
  • High-speed steel is compatible with a variety of materials
  • M18 X 1.5 threaded shank connects cutter securely with the toolholder

Product Description

The Jancy Slugger uncoated, carbide-tipped high-speed steel annular cutter with 2” depth and a M18 x 1.5 threaded shank is used to create through holes as deep as 2” in a range of materials, with best performance in hard-to-machine materials as well as mild steel and stainless steel. An annular cutter removes only the circumference of a through hole (extending through the workpiece), releasing the central material as a slug when the hole has been cut. The center-free design of the tool results in energy efficiency and reduced cycle time: the operator can produce holes three to five times faster than with a conventional twist drill that must convert the entire hole into chips. In addition, this tool’s multiple cutting edges can create an accurate, burr-free hole that minimizes the need for secondary operations such as pre-drilling and reaming.

High-speed steel (HSS) is a common general-purpose steel for cutting tools and is compatible with a variety of materials. With no coating or surface treatment, this uncoated tool can be used on a broad range of materials and provides an economical alternative to coated tools. Carbide edges add cutting strength to the tool body; carbide is harder than high-speed or cobalt steel, making it more wear-resistant at high speeds and providing longer tool life.

This tool’s M18 X 1.5 threaded shank has threads on the opposite end of the drill from the cutting edges and can be quickly threaded into drills or drill attachments. The threads provide a secure fit in the tool holder. In this Jancy tool series, annular cutters can create holes of various diameters with a depth of cut as large as 2”.

Annular cutters are hollow drill bits that cut only the periphery of a hole, reducing the torque and horsepower requirements for drilling in many applications. Because they remove less material than standard twist drill bits, they have faster cutting speeds and use less energy in comparison with twist drills and are more efficient than metal hole saws. The multiple cutting edges on annular cutters produce accurate, burr-free holes without the need for pilot holes, minimizing the need for secondary operations such as pre-drilling, step drilling, or reaming.

Jancy Engineering manufactures Slugger portable magnetic drills and annular cutters, as well as metal working equipment for the fabrication trade. The company, founded in 1957 and headquartered in Davenport, IA, provides tools that meet ANSI standards to steel fabricators and erectors, machinists and maintenance personnel, and truck body and ship builders, among others.
