probably great if you have a SHORT commute...
on September 27, 2013
I live in western Oregon, and commute 8-miles 1-way 5 days a week. I thought that this helmet cover would be a great idea, but I was very wrong. Don't get me wrong, it keeps the rain out and is highly visible, and if you have a short ride (perhaps only 2 or 3 miles), you will like it.
For me, it turned out not so great. Why, you ask?
In a nutshell: sweat. On my often rainy, high humidity commute, my head pours out a copious amounts of sweat, but the helmet prevents airflow (not the same as breathable), so I end up dripping sweat just as much (if not more) than if I let the rain wash on through. To make things worse, where the rain would be rinsing all that sweat away, I was now stuck with a bunch of helmet pads soaked with sweat, which got quite stinky (even with weekly washings). So, helmet cover had to go.
I still want to like it, but it has no place in my current commute -- and if you sweat on your commute, it probably won't work for you, either.
