This review is from: Jane Birkin (Audio CD)
What I like best on this Cd are Je t'aime Moi non plus , Jane B and le Couteau dans Le Play. What I had not heard before which I somehow have on 2 CDs is Decadanse. On both of them ( and they are exactly the same) she souhds - I don't know why--absolutely awful, which I find unusual even though I am only so familiar with her work and have had only so many of her recordings. What turned me off that I don't like/agree with was also--elsewhere-- a customer review involving a Serge Gainsbourg CD comparing him/them to The Velevt Undergroung and Nico. Frankly, for a little while, I had one Velvet Undeground (not necessarily with Nico) record, briefly, in the 60s--and threw it away. Now I see that there are even Velvet Underground essential recordings... And Leonard Bernstein essential recordings, Bach essential recordings, Bizet and Gounod essential recordings... And there are no Jane Birkin/Serge Gainsbourg essentail recordings or Jane Birkin essential recordings--and I thought The Velvet Undeground was very sick in the 60s--and still do--and while there are easily things that you could say about Serge Gainsbourg and therefore both of them--Je t'aime Moi Non Plus, among others-- is terrific.
