I do not have any experience with graphic novels or comics beyond the random flipping through of my cousin's Batman comics. I found the Graphic Novel version of Jane Eyre to be completely interesting and engaging. The illustrations were magnificent. They really brought the story of Jane Eyre to life. The language was almost exactly the same as the novel. There was once jarring moment where Jane says "Huh?". It just didn't fit with the language of the rest of the comic.

This graphic novel and other graphic novels like it would be excellent in the school atmosphere where some students would be more likely to read and enjoy a graphic novel rather than the novel itself. These graphic novels are beautifully illustrated and remain true to the novels they are based on. I will definitely be buying more of them and hope and pray they make one for Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility.

I felt it chould have been a lot better. I whould have like it in hardback. There are options of having this in org text, which is what I got or a more simple text. It kept true to the story and was very well done. I felt the art work chould have been better.

The point of creating the Graphic Novel is to encourage today's students to go back to the original and enjoy it more. Ooops, I gave the game away! :) The Comic's text has been wonderfully abridged, and Americanized (hence the "Huh?" Jane says). I suggest renting the 1973 BBC version, if your Blockbuster has it. The 1983 version is adequate: I believe Mr. Dalton did not have a "Jane" who challenged him. Teased him. Stuck a sly penknife, so to speak, under his ear. Mr. Jayston and Miss Cusack, however, take the witty script and run with it.

I bought this book as a birthday gift for my sister. My sister is a big fan of Jane Eyre. She could not wait to read it and check out the graphics. It was a good purchase.

What a sad excuse for a classic novel. It does not even deserve the title "Jane Eyre". One of my favorite books, Jane Eyre has amazingly heartrending scenes. All the climactic parts of the book which make your heart twist into knots are condensed to one frame and reduced to nothing more than a quick vignette. If you at all liked Jane Eyre and want a book with some hint of a plot, don't bother with this. There are plenty better graphic novels out there.

Back around 1960 John Burns, the illustrator of Classic Comics "Jane Eyre" and I were both in the RAF and stationed at RAF Brampton in England. John was good enough to help me in my own drawing efforts before being posted, I believe to Singapore. I still have some of his original pencil and water color sketches from that time and have always admired his style. After National Service I moved to California and heard no more about John but have never forgotten the enormous talent he had. I am pleased that thousands of others, through John's published work, have also enjoyed his talents.

There's not a lot to say about the graphic novel version of "Jane Eyre" more than "it's the most faithful adaptation I've come across". It even got the "and a little depressed" scene spot on! This graphic novel version can be got in two versions. The "original text version" (black cover, the one I read) has the dialogue and descriptions like they are in the original, except perhaps a bit shortened. After all, they're trying to squeeze in a lot of novel in 144 pages! The other is a "quick text version" (colour cover) is called thus because it has a simplified language which might be easier for younger readers to understand - or people who find Victorian English too tedious.

Haven't really read any graphic novels as such, so I found it a bit tricky to get into, and with "Jane Eyre", the pictures - while lovely pieces of art - just distracted me from the story, because I kept thinking "but that's not what they look like!" all the time. The characters looked wrong, but it's no fault of the artist, but simply because we all create our own images in our heads as to what characters look like when we read something.

I would definitely recommend it, though. It's a great introduction to "Jane Eyre", and if you haven't got the patience to read the original book (or, let's be honest, get bored by it), or even to sit through four or five hours of BBC drama, but still want to know the story - this is excellent. It tells the whole story from beginning to end, and you get a good feel for it, without important things being missed or changed around. This is the original story, the way Brontė wrote it (purists delight!), and that's the purpose of it: to show a classic book to a new audience, but without losing any of the original story. Classical Comics have definitely succeeded with that, and done it in full colour.

Considering all of the Brontė siblings were keen on painting and drawing, I think Charlotte Brontė would have been pleased to see her most famous novel in this form.

Charlotte Bronte's 1847 Gothic romance "Jane Eyre" has proved irresistable to generations of readers and to those who would adapt it to other formats, such as television and film. This 2010 adaptation presents the long and melodramatic story in a shortened graphic novel format, based on a script by Amy Corzine. The good news is that the art and the script are up to the task. "Jane Eyre: The Graphic Novel" is a very worthwhile introduction to a classic novel.

As the story opens, the reader is introduced to Jane Eyre, a plain but spunky orphan who is the unwanted ward of a cruel and abusive aunt. Jane is eventually banished to a charity school, where the students are grossly neglected, but where Jane is able to find friends and a mentor. An older Jane obtains a position as a governess in the household of the mysterious Edward Rochester, master of Thornfield Hall. The house is full of secrets and danger, but also of romance. Jane falls in love with her employer, but finds the cost of being with him to be too high. She flees, eventually finding refugee with another family, and where she will make a discovery that changes her life...

Fans of the original novel may be unhappy with the abridgement and changed point of view of this graphic novel. However, this version does strive to present Jane's challenges and her central moral dilemma in a format designed to appeal to younger modern readers. It is highly recommended to that audience.

I am a reluctant reader, so I do not like to read books, especially literature or classic literature. My college professor requires us to read a graphic novel and the classic to compare and contrast, and I pick Jane Eyre. I really enjoy this teaching and way of motivating us to read and write down our ideas of the graphic novel and the classic. When I read this graphic novel, I can not put it down. The context of the story is succinct and compacted, so that I efficiently grasp the essence of the plot. Even though it is a classic graphic novel, the author still includes the original text from the classic. This book is a good primer for the classic.

Having never read this novel in its entirety, it was an absolute delight for me to read it in this graphic novel. Granted that some of us may never pick up the original to savour its literary nuances, this comic gives us a taste of what we are missing. The gorgeously painted panels convey very nicely the social mores of Bronte's literary world.

A true successor to the old "Classics Illustrated" comics of yesteryear.

This comic is available in several versions (simple or advanced english)and is a boon to all readers, comics or otherwise.
