Finally. That's the only thing I have to say. After two years of waiting for this CD it's finally here for all music lovers to enjoy. I've always loved the story of Jane Eyre, but this score allows the true passion and purity to shine through. The oboe solo in Jane's Theme is overwhelmingly lush and rich. No one who hears this piece would ever think anything is lacking at all.

To start with, I totally disagree with Joseph Lanza's review, who pretends that this soundtrack is dull. Instead, this soundtrack immerses you in its music starting from its first track, which not only introduces the movie, but announces to us that Jane Eyre is not only a romance, but also someone who will be living a great identity quest, her life to put it simply.Of all the movie soundtracks that I have, this is probably the one which I will always love to play over and over again, either on a cd or in my head. Not only is it moving, but the composers, Alessio Vlad and Claudio Capponi, manages to represent various periods of Jane Eyre's life. Her childhood, her friendship with Helen, her pains and suffering at her relatives' house, at her boarding school, and through her adulthood, as she passes to Thornfield Hall and meets, apart from Helen and Miss Temple, the first people who ever respected and loved her. Not only that, I think it also works as a soundtrack while reading the novel. It is a great buy that everyone or every library should get for I didn't expect to be this moved and amazed by its incredible humanity and array of emotions.

It's about time they recorded the music from the Zefferelli's Jane Eyre. The movie is awesome. The CD is beyond words. You can just hear the story of her trials and triumphs in the notes. Jane's Infancy and Jane's Journey are probably some of the best.

Lush return to old-fashioned scoring,

Never heard of this version of Jane Eyre? You're not alone; this beyond mediocre 1997 release directed by Zefferelli didn't have much--except this beautiful and lush score that has at last been recorded on CD. A wonderful, melodic return to '30s-'40s-style movie scoring from one half of the team that brought us the lovely (although not quite as accomplished) Tea With Mussolini score on CD this past summer. Listen for the pre-Titanic melodies readily apparent (and better) on this score.

I bought this CD for my husband and he couldn't stop playing it when he first got it. I had to threaten him I would burn it if he kept it up. I have to admit it is quite beautiful music.

quietly beautiful and a little solitary,
This review is from: Jane Eyre: Original Soundtrack Recording (Audio CD)
The official amazon.com reviewer (Joseph Lanza) is unnecessarily uncharitable. This Vlad-Capponi score is a lovely and sensitive effort, with lush romantic swells interspersed with more delicate touches and an overall sense of very palpable melancholic yearning. And there are distinct allusions/similarities to the famous love theme (by Nino Rota) in another Zeffirelli classic, the 1968 "Romeo and Juliet."But even as a stand-alone album, this is enjoyable and in fact quite cohesive. Jane's Theme unifies the entire score - as it should, since it is her story told in her voice. The order of the tracks (it isn't the narrative order) also makes listening to the entire score in one run really pleasant - no awkward/abrupt jumps that are sometimes unavoidable in soundtracks. Lovely!

Brought this CD after watching the Jane Eyre 1996 movie Starring William Hurt. The music in the movie is lovely as is the movie and it draws you in as you watch the story of Jane Eyre.I enjoyed the score so much when watching the movie that I had to buy the soundtrack. I think this CD will only be enjoyed by the people who have seen the movie and loved the 1996 version.

"The shadows are as important as the light",
By A Customer
This review is from: Jane Eyre: Original Soundtrack Recording (Audio CD)
Vlad and Capponi's score captures so well the bittersweet quality of Charlotte Bronte's classic. As Jane Eyre herself would say "The shadows are as important as the light" in this haunting and evocative music. I highly recommend, along with John Williams' beautiful (and fortunately re-issued) recording of the 1970 television movie score. It's just too bad that we had to wait almost four years for it!
