As Jane Fonda strides into her 70s, she is still focused on and committed to fitness. Her Fit & Strong workout is geared to older exercisers, or those who simply are starting out. There are two 25-minute workouts on this DVD, a Level 1 and a Level 2. Both can be done seated and standing, with light weights (which can be increased for a more challenging workout). These workouts get at nearly every muscle group, gently but thoroughly. There are also excellent stretches included and great tips on daily activities, posture, and the like. What is most endearing and touching about Fit & Strong is not necessarily the workouts--we expect Fonda to deliver and she does. But it's Fonda's supportive tone and discussions at the beginning of the workouts and throughout the movements that set Fit & Strong apart. Fonda is understanding about the disconnected feeling many people, especially older people, have about their bodies, and how feeling reconnected stimulates not just the body, but the mind and the soul. Fonda says it's OK to be wherever you are in your fitness level--and she takes it from there. What you get is a DVD disc that has two workout routines on them. The second routine is a little more advanced than the first, although neither one is overly strenuous. That's actually a good thing, because this workout DVD is intended for older exercisers. So, choose this DVD if you're a senior, just starting to exercise, or are looking for a light workout.

The workout. Both routines are pretty thorough. By that, I mean that they stretch and strengthen all the major parts of your body. So, this DVD will help you get more flexible, less stiff, and stronger. And, if you keep moving the whole time during the DVD and don't rest, you'll likely get some cardio training in as well (although her walking DVD, Jane Fonda: Prime Time - Walkout, is probably better suited for that). To boot, there's a couple of extras at the end of the DVD- here you'll get a few really good exercises to help improve your balance, and some other tips on exercising. Noteworthy is the fact that many of the exercises are done in standing- although you're holding on to a chair for a lot of them. Both routines are around twenty to twenty-five minutes each.

Just a great little DVD that will get you moving- and keep you moving if you stick with it! Also recommend Treat Your Own Knee Arthritis if you have knee pain that keeps you from exercising regularly. Good luck!

This video I picked up from Target the other day. It was so good to see Jane Fonda on store shelves again! She is my absolute favorite fitness instructor. I've been working out with Jane since I was a teen. Before that I used to watch my mom exercise to her on VHS. When I was a teenager her instructions of how to safely and properly exercise sunk into my mind, thus instilling lasting discipline between my mind & body. So few people know about safe and proper body alignment. I will always be grateful to Jane for re-enforcing again and again with each video of hers how crucial it is to properly perform the exercise.

In her newest video Jane is true to her style of looking out for us here at home who are trying to follow her lead. She is very considerate and compassionate. Jane has a soothing voice and really looks after the viewer. This is especially important since this video is more geared toward older folks. I am young but out of shape. I wanted something gentle and non-intimidating which would keep me moving on a day when I don't want to move. This video has delivered what I was looking for. If you are super-fit and aerobic you probably won't like this video.
Things happen in life. People get sick, develop illnesses or injuries, give birth, get off of track for whatever reason, let themselves go...This is a video for people going through life who want to keep moving, want to be encouraged to care for themselves. We won't always being doing kick-boxing, advanced aerobics or such high-impact exercise through our entire life. Real people need something else to fall back on when their energy is low or the pace of life has changed for whatever reason. This video works for that purpose.

The introduction before level 1, to my surprise made me cry. I could 100% relate with what Jane was saying about being out of touch with the body. It felt good to sit with Jane and tune in to my body and appreciate it.

For those curious, yes Jane looks wonderful! She is lean and fit and has a better physique than many young people have. You can tell she has taken good care of herself. Her muscles are well developed & shapely. Her limbs are long and lean. More than that she seems peaceful, composed, calm. Her demeanor lends me a sense of calm which I can use after a crazy day of running around.

I enjoyed this workout more than her new walking workout. The workout itself is not very long, so if you are into hardcore weight workouts it will probably be too short for you. The nice thing about weight workouts is that you can use any weight you are comfortable with. I used heavier weights than Jane used in the DVD and felt like I got a decent workout. There is also a nice variety of exercises in this workout.
