4.0 out of 5 stars Basic but amazing
This book gives you basic information about the F/A-18 Hornet if you just want to know something about the plane. The book also gives you amazing pictures which I think it's very difficult to find anywhere else & it's in color. But if you really want to know everything about this jet, then I would recommend the "Boeing F/A-18 Hornet" by Dennis R...

3.0 out of 5 stars Basically good, but could have used better proofreading
Overall, this is a pretty good read. Lots of good pictures, especially of USMC Hornets, which don't always get coverage. However, the author (or maybe the editor) mis-labels a few pictures, there are several noticeable typos, & a couple of places where the info is questionable (do you REALLY want to arm the ejection seat before you strap in?) These problems wouldn't...

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic but amazing, September 15, 2000
This review is from: Jane's How to Fly and Fight in the F/A-18 Hornet (Jane's at the Controls) (Paperback)
This book gives you basic information about the F/A-18 Hornet if you just want to know something about the plane. The book also gives you amazing pictures which I think it's very difficult to find anywhere else & it's in color. But if you really want to know everything about this jet, then I would recommend the "Boeing F/A-18 Hornet" by Dennis R. Jenkins. That book will give you really complete information about the F/A-18 Hornet, there are also nice pictures but the problem is that the pictures are in black & white(Only 8 pages with color pictures). On the other hand, if you want pictures, then get THIS book or the "McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet: A photo chronicle(Schiffer Military/Aviation History)" by William G. Holder. Further more, this book will be a valuable aset to the fans of the F/A-18 Hornet.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting, fully-detailed book about the F/a 18., April 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Jane's How to Fly and Fight in the F/A-18 Hornet (Jane's at the Controls) (Paperback)
Great for anyone who loves planes! It has great pictures, describes the plane from nose to arrestor hook to the wingtip sidewinders, and has a mission-from the cat launch to the touchdown. At the Controls, F/a 18 Hornet is probably the best book on one of the best planes!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "A must READ!!","Why did I wait? I can't put it down!", February 10, 1999
This review is from: Jane's How to Fly and Fight in the F/A-18 Hornet (Jane's at the Controls) (Paperback)
Where do I begin to praise this book? It is a great asset to my aviation Library & like cream it rises to the top of my aviation collection!! I'am X-Navy Vietnam who spent many months on & around aircraft carriers, Enterprise CVn-65. It seems that I can never get enough Leading Edge-Fast Lane Military Aviation Technology. And without over stating it this is what I call "That Gap Book" because it comes close to making my collection complete...if that is possible....NOT!! Thanks David C. Isby for your shared passion of mine & Amazon.Com for ease & confort to increase my passion "Military Aviation"!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book For Young Enthusiasts, February 19, 2002
This review is from: Jane's How to Fly and Fight in the F/A-18 Hornet (Jane's at the Controls) (Paperback)
The targeted audience for this book was a little below my interest level. But this would be an excellent book for a child or young teen interested in the Hornet. It has lots of photos, illustrations, even details the Hornet Pilot's flight gear.

This book has everything you'd want to know about the F/A 18 Hornet, as well as other things like ships that support the aircraft carrier, threats to the Hornet, and planes that support the Hornet on its missions. This book is perfect for people into fighter jets, naval warfare, etc.

Excellent writing complemented by fantastic photos, How to Fly and Fight in the F/A-18 Hornet is a must have for all military aviation buffs. It is about time someone wrote a good book about the Hornet, I've look everywhere for one and this is the best I've come across. Bravo Isby!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a treasure item for naval aviation enthusiasts., January 27, 1999

This review is from: Jane's How to Fly and Fight in the F/A-18 Hornet (Jane's at the Controls) (Paperback)
Jane's has the most informative and intresting titles in military technology. I've always wanted to know how fighter pilots fly and fight. This F/A-18 book is a step by step story on the mission of a fighter pilot. Learn about the airplane, its weapons and capabilities, the mission, and getting back on the boat. I highly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great info about modern jetfighters, June 26, 1998

This review is from: Jane's How to Fly and Fight in the F/A-18 Hornet (Jane's at the Controls) (Paperback)
A great book about the F/A 18,but it also covers other areas too; such as carrier ops, airwing ops and weapon systems too. It helps you to understand how each plane is part of a complex, dynamic environment. If you like the Hornet or naval jets it's a must. It's still worth checking out if you like other kinds of planes too.
