Jane's Infantry Weapons: 2000-2001

Although this book is very expensive, it is worth the money considering that it contains just about every kind of infanty weapons such as rifles, sub-machine guns, machine guns, antitank weapons, sniper rifles, anti-material rifles, and mortars, etc. The other category of weapons that it doesn't have is anti-personnel mines, but this class of weapon is being phased out and Jane's usually cover it in Jane's Mines and Mine Clearance.

However, this book does contains some errors. For example, in the rifles section of the book, the APS 95, the Croatian version of the Israeli Galli rifle, was mentioned to be in the book, under Croatia in the rifle section. But, when you turn to this section, this entry was omitted although this is not really a new weapon considering it was mentioned in the 1999-2000 issue of this book.

Although this book does include prototypes of new weapon systems, some weapons, such as the German UMP, German acronym for Universial Machine Pistol, sub-machine gun even though this was mentioned in a Jane's publication, Jane's International Defence Review, last year. Curiously, some weapons that are no longer in production that were perviously in production are included in this book as a new entry.

However, one section that I like that this book included was shotguns, a weapon that has a lot of history in infantry combat, but often neglected in book like these because it is often considered to be a modification of a civilian weapon, and not as a real military weapon for the infantry.
