Greenberg, the editor of the forthcoming The Michael Crichton Companion (Ballantine, 1997), and Massie (Far and Away, Berkley, 1992) use an extended interview format to lead the reader through the thoughts of popular romance author Dailey. Since the authors' work is the result of many hours of unedited audiotapes, the transcription is a tangled web, touching on such unconnected issues as Dailey's writer's block, struggles with Harlequin, and ideas of personal beauty. This is intermingled with responses from the interviewer on her own career and thank yous to Dailey for granting her the opportunity to do the interview. The saving grace of this companion is that it gives a synopsis of each of Dailey's books, but the lack of indexing is a stumbling block. Recommended only for large public libraries.?Betty J.
