Janine and Alex are two teens that meet over the internet, one, a typical school girl, Alex, who wishes she could be on the runway, like a model or moviestar, and Janine, who is a model and moviestar who wishes to live the life of a normal child, friends, school, and family. They are introduced over an instant message on the internet and plan to meet. When they do meet, they find out they look excactly alike! So they decide to trade places, one lives as a schoolgirl, the other as a major moviestar on the runway. While on their adventures of living each other's lives, they discover very interesting things, for instance, Alex finds out that some of the rumors you hear about movie stars aren't true, and Janine finds out just how teens her own age really act outside the life of fame and fortune. One thing leads after another, which is very interesting when they keep continuing to secetly hide their real identity week after week, Janine insists that Alex doesn't come home! and just go to a photo shoot that turns out majorlly terrific. Alex (playing Janine) meets a moviestar and falls in love, later on tells who she really is. For Janine, she has to learn just how to act in highschool, not too popular, or a showoff. This is an excellent story about how you compare the different lives of a teen, and how they get to live the lives they really want, one who want a normal family and home, the other, fame and fortune. Of course at the end they do go back to their regular lives, boring and dull for them, but not if they switch! Read this book, it's really interesting!

Let me just say that this book was obviously written by a man. However, I must give him credit for having the guts to write from a girl's point of view. This book is one of those that tells people that anything can happen. It's for all those girls who have ever idolized a movie star. It says that good things happen to good people, and that if you want something bad enough, your dreams will come true. Despite the fact that every other word is like, I found that I could not put the book down.

... I purchased this book after watching themade-for-tv-movie that it was based on. I have to say that the movieis only vaguely similar to the book, so to look at it in comparison tothe movie isn't really the best way to do it. What makes this bookspecial is that the characters in the book go through a lot of changes and discover a lot about themselves along the way. This book is a good read for any teenager who has dreamt of being in someone else's shoes, even just for a week. For dreamers and realists alike, this book has something for you. For anyone who saw the movie, be warned that the book is different from the movie, but both are very enjoyable in their own way. Well, maybe one is a little more realistic than the other... Read the book, you'll know what I mean. END

This story not just how if you are an average girl someone out there that is a "MODEL" or "MOVIESTAR" will find you and you can switch places. It is about learning to believe in yourself with the things you are doing in life. When you believe you are cool you will become "COOL" or at least feel better about yourself and not worry about what others think. Take that first big step in believing in what you are! And magical things will happen, NO Justin Timberlake will not show up at your Prom, but maybe that cute boy you have had your eye on for years will speak to you and find out the real you! GOOD LUCK!

This book is about two girls that looks nearly identical but with different lives. Alex is a typical schoolgirl who wishes to be a model while Janine is a world famous teen model who wishes to lead a normal life. The two of them met in a chat room and Janine later visited Alex. They decided to pose as each other for a week, and what an extraordinary week it was for both of them! Alex went on a real super model career,going to a party full of famous people and meeting Jason Sharp, a teen actor. A romance started between them. After that Alex went for a few other shoots and even a runaway in paris with Jason! While Janine went to high school, trying to figure out the way normal schoolkids live... and she had her own share of fun as well. Both girls love their new life...
However, something terrible happened in the end that is unsatisfactory... read this book and it'll make you happy, laugh and yet feel sad and "how could it be?!" ( in the end) but no matter what, this is a GREAT and wonderful book... the missing star is for the bad ending....:( A must read! :)

Janine and Alex, Alex and Janine is a good book. Alex, a typical teen from suburbia is a huge fan of Janine Adams, world-famous super model. When in a chat room, Janine IM's Alex and asks if she'd like to meet. Janine says sure, then realizes it's probably just one of her friends playing a joke on her. Until Janine pulls up in a stretch limo.

What follows is a typical Prince and the Pauper trading places shtick that's been done over and over. I find this one especially appealing because Alex has incredible adventures. A romp in Paris with famous male model Jason Sharp, posing for Vogue, attending hotsy-totsy parties. What teenage girl wouldn't like that for a couple weeks?

It ends badly (much, much worse than the movie), but I won't spoil that for you. You have to read the book to understand. The character development is excellent and you actually can't stop reading. Give it a try if the teen books out right now are just too bland for you.

This book is a fun read. Not a lot of thinking required. It is definitley enjoyable though. I bought this book about 4 years ago, and have read it many times since. I think that the appeal is that everybody wishes this story was happening to them. Trading places with a supermodel, travelling to Paris on the Concorde, getting revenge on the boy who broke your heart...

I recommend this book to girls ages 12-15. Be warned! You wont be able to put it down!

It felt like reading a fashion magazine without the fashion. I'm 15 years old and have read many poorly written fanfics on the internet. "Janine and Alex, Alex and Janine" seemed like a long and well written fanfic, but since it's a book and not fanfiction, I gave it a well deserved rating of 2 stars. The main characters were bubbly and stereotypical (annoying). It was filled with over cliched situations (boring). The boy that's meant to get the girl was too sappy and surreal (actually liked his part the most). It didn't accoplish capturing my imagination.

is like, the author like, a high schooler? cause i mean like, he used the word "like" about like, 500 times in this book, and there were only like, 300 pages in like the book. Other than that though pretty good!

I really liked this book. The ABC movie with Justin Timberlake and Kathy Lee Gifford was based on this book. I really liked it and wish everyone should read it. Oh, it is about a nerdy girl and a movie star meeting, looking exactly alike and trading places.
