5.0 out of 5 stars A better life is only 2 hours away!, July 12, 2007
This review is from: The Janitor: How an Unexpected Friendship Transformed a CEO and His Company (Hardcover)
I love to read non-fiction and really enjoy meaningful, well written publications that can actually help me as I press forward in the day-to-day steps of my life.

Hopkins and Hilbert have really hit the nail on the head with "The Janitor." It is very well written, holds your attention and provides well defined, easy to remember steps to improving your life.

I often muse that Jim Collins, "Good To Great" (another must read) is really a book about life, not business, but it is sold as a business book. Similarly, "The Janitor" is about life and not just about the simple steps to improving your business (bla, bla).

In it (The Janitor), Hopkins and Hilbert have created a story where a corporate CEO builds a relationship with a janitor while working late and begins to learn 6 key steps that, when implemented, have a radical and positive shift in the life results for the executive both at work and at home.

I think the story means a lot to me personally because I can so closely relate to the struggles of the executive and also have seen the impact of the implementation of these 6 simple steps - that ultimately lead us to living the life we dream of instead of what the driving force within our culture creates for us.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Business of Life, July 17, 2007
This review is from: The Janitor: How an Unexpected Friendship Transformed a CEO and His Company (Hardcover)
I've had the pleasure of reading The Janitor. I've also had the pleasure of "living" The Janitor. After reading this book, I have rearranged the things in my life that are most important. I apply the six directives daily and have imparted this wisdom to others! My life at home is happier and my work in business more satisfying. YOU MUST BUY THIS BOOK, READ IT, AND TAKE THE DIRECTIVES TO HEART.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!, July 16, 2007

This review is from: The Janitor: How an Unexpected Friendship Transformed a CEO and His Company (Hardcover)
I read this book at the urging of a friend and found myself pulled into the story right away. I couldn't put the book down until I found out what the next directive was. It serves as a powerful reminder of what is truly important to us in the big picture. I would recommend it to everyone since the lessons can be incorporated into the everyday lives of people from all walks of life - not just a CEO!

5.0 out of 5 stars A modern day classic on how to build a better life., July 31, 2007
This review is from: The Janitor: How an Unexpected Friendship Transformed a CEO and His Company (Hardcover)
My international consulting work brings me into direct contact with thousands of desparately out-of-balance men and women. If my clients simply integrated the six directives in this powerful book, I'd be out of work! Read and apply these directives - it will change your life for the better.

5.0 out of 5 stars This shows how all people are important to our lives---, January 21, 2012
We never really know who we are going to come across in our paths that will take us up another ladder--it could be a mentor, co-woker, priest etc....But when a person is willing to listen, willing to talk, willing to share, and most of all willing to care it does not take a BIG title to help us out. This book is how I see anyone, at any given time, we can help others out, we don't have to have the title, the big car, the big house to be of help--all we have to do is be there as a close friends, even if it is for one second, and that second can have a deeper impact on our lives forever. Pick this book up, read it and grow and learn from it--for this is a very heart warming story of character.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Lessons! Addictive presentation! Love this book!, June 24, 2011
This is one those books that not only PMA book readers, but also story loving audience would love to read and learn from! This book is not only for men and women in business, but for all of us who get trapped into some of the habits that may start out as good, but overtake us, and run our lives, and soon destroy peace of mind.

Like one of the reviews said, this book does not say anything "new". However, it reminds us again about the vertical alignment of our personal and family lives> It talks about what is important in life and what is not.
This book kept me engaged continuously until I read it cover to cover in one single go! , This is a great read even for those who don't care to read or feel they don't have enough time to read.

Print the directives, and place them on your bathroom mirror, your desk, your fridge... They are just some of those things everyone needs to be reminded of.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Story on What's Really Important!, April 27, 2011

This review is from: The Janitor: How an Unexpected Friendship Transformed a CEO and His Company (Hardcover)
The Janitor was a great book that had a spiritual perspective to it. It was just right in length and a quick yet impactful read. It would be great for Evangelism classes, small group studies, and as gifts to anyone starting their business career. Those six little principles are the basis to live by. I plan to buy more of these books for gifts.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than I expected, March 14, 2011
This review is from: The Janitor: How an Unexpected Friendship Transformed a CEO and His Company (Hardcover)
Let me just say that I am not a reader! At least not books other than the Bible. With that said,.. I recently attended a seminar where one of the authors(Ray)was speaking to men on "how to be the man God would have us to be". I liked his speaking style, so I purchased a few of his books. I started reading "The Janitor" this evening, & finished it this evening! I recommend this book to anyone really, but especially those who find life to be so busy that it's having a negative effect on your ability to be the parent, or spouse that you need to be. The "directives" set forth in the story are well thought out, & seem very practical in regards to one's ability to implement. Happy reading...

A nice, quick read that reminds us of the important things in life. Well written, captivating, and thought provoking. What else do you need? I read it on my lunch breaks at work and found it not only to be a nice diversion but a good reminder to look past the immediate to the truly important. Appropriate for anyone, especially those in the business world.
