And of course, I love that it has Hello Kitty! :)

I would recommend this machine to any little girl (or big girl) who wants to learn how to sew.

This machine sews just as well as my full-sized machine (which cost 20 times more).

My mother-in-law bought this machine for my 7-year-old daughter. We wanted a smaller machine for her to learn on, but all the 'toy' machines are such awful junk we went for this one. I'm so glad we did! I'm an avid seamstress and have an old-school pfaff, but I have to admit I've been stealing her machine more and more frequentlym especially when I go out to sew!

Pros:
It's lightweight, making it perfect for travelling, for pulling out for a quick repair, and for young learners.

It's super easy to use. My daughter learned quickly how to sew with it and works on her own now.

It's SO cute. Adorable. Why can they make full sized machines this darling?

It's very good quality and sews like a dream. The sound is uniform and smooth and the stitch quality is excellent. No complaints from us and we've had it over a year!

Cons:
This doesn't do 'fancy' stuff. If you want a machine with fancy stitch capabilities and plan on becoming a professional seamstress, this could not be your only machine. But I still think this is an excellent second machine for an expert seamstress.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase and recommend it to anyone.

As for the review that said it only has one speed, I haven't found this to be any different from any other machine I've used. If you push the pedal in all the way, it goes fast. Just a light push results in a slow speed.

I've had this machine for three months now and I love it. It's easy to understand and use. It's not an intimidating machine at all. I'm an adult beginning sewer, learning by reading books and practicing. I find it's perfect for my needs. I don't foresee myself becoming a sewing maniac but I like being creative and just making or repairing things. As a result, a machine like this totally fits my needs and the adorable Hello Kitty design helps make the work even more fun.

Update 02/20/2009:
I turned into a sewing maniac after all! As a result, I discovered the limitations of this machine and eventually bought a full-size Janome electronic sewing machine that I'm very happy with.

Here are the limitations of the Hello Kitty version:
- there is no speed control. Like a golf cart, you either go or you're at stop. It helps to have better control otherwise you might not be sewing where you want to sew.
- the 4-step buttonholer was frustrating to use and I could never get consistent looking buttonholes.

Those were really the only two things that bothered me. I still have this machine because I love the looks of it, but I consider it a backup.

This machine was amazing. It was easy to use (when using my mom's expensive fancy machine, I thought I was a horrible seamstress because I kept breaking things). I just sewed a kilt for my husband using this machine. The kilt instructions said, "your machine simply may not do it. Unless you have an industrial machine, it almost for sure won't." (was referring to sewing through nine layers of canvas when attaching waistband to overlapping pleats). This hello Kitty sewing machine sewed through nine layers of canvas with no hesitation. Hello kitty machine exceeded expectations.

Janome 11706 3/4 Size Hello Kitty Sewing Machine

This is a wonderful machine for the price. It works better than my expensive full sized machine and it is light and easy to transport and store. I find it really easy to use. I have used it to make curtains, purses, dresses, shirts, slippers, and for mending. It works on everything even stretch fabrics and thick denim.
I think that the people who are having problems with it are using the wrong needles and bobbins. You must use the ones sized for Janome machines. Better quality thread also makes a HUGE difference. I use Guetermann and it works like a dream.
I love this machine so much that I am now saving up for the new Hello Kitty Janome electronic machine.

I read about this machine reading one of my many "smut" celebrity gossip mags. An up and coming designer said she used it as her go to machine. Well that being said...it hello kitty and sewing! This machine combines something I love and something I love doing. It really is a good little work horse and so user friendly for any age, really. It using compact, durable and cute. I LOVE THIS MACHINE!!!!!

We had a little trouble at first but it turned out it was threaded incorrectly. Once we re-threaded the machine, we have had no issues. Great basic machine! My daughter is 7 and she is having a fantastic time sewing up every scrap of fabric I can give her. I would recommend this to a beginner or casual sewist. It's great!

We have 2 of these little machines. My 9 year old has been sewing with hers for 2 years, my 7 year old about a year. We haven't had any issues what so ever. I'm actually looking into getting another one for my littlest girls birthday this summer. I have a rather old Brother machine that I love, but when it was in need of a repair I used my daughters machine for about 7 months. It worked just fine. It has all the basic stitches, the tension is great and my daughters can do their own bobbins. They even figured out how to thread the machine on their own. I would recommend this machine to any little girl (or big girl) who wants to learn how to sew.
