This review is from: Janome AQS-2009 25th Anniversary Machine Excellent Buy
First, let me say I haven't sewed in about 25 years. I decided I wanted to get back into sewing, but not on my 35+ year old machine. I had a couple of "must-haves" on my requirement list: 1) Automatic needle threader 2) a machine with a manual tension adjustment 3) a machine that isn't always jamming.
I also thought I'd like an electronic model with a few utility stitches, and maybe a push button start/stop instead of having to use a pedal. I knew I didn't want a Singer or a Brother machine. Well, I got everything I wanted - and thought I wanted - in this Janome AQS2009 model at an excellent price. I absolutely love this machine. It's so quite to run, has a bright light, fills the bobbin evenly, has a sewing speed control, and a needle up/down setting, free arm, it's small and lightweight, and the automatic needle threader is the best thing since sliced bread. Oh, and it has a 25 year warranty. The stitches are a very nice quality on this machine, regardless of the thickness of material you're sewing. I've already sewed 6 layers of material (fabric and bias tape) together with this machine, and the stitches were perfect. The fact that this machine is a 3/4 size model was a plus. I intend to take some quilting classes, and at 12 lbs. this machine will be easy to tote back and forth. You might have trouble finding accessories for the AQS2009, but since this machine is a duplicate of the retired Janome Jem Platinum 720, finding additional feet, etc. is a breeze. Oh, one last thing... I thought I didn't receive the buttonhole foot, but I found it inside the extension table (the part you remove to expose the free arm) so make sure you look for it there.

I am a quilter, primarily. I have this machine as a second machine to take to sewing classes and my sewing group. I have had the machine for a little more than a year. You could do well with this as your only machine for piecing and machine applique. This is a 3/4 size machine (which is great for portability), so I cannot recommend it for machine quilting. I think it would be a struggle to quilt anything much bigger than a small wall hanging. That said, I think the feature set and quality are very good for the money.
The machine makes a lovely stitch, and it is the needle threader and needle up/down that sold me. I am spoiled by those features on my home machine. It does a very nice tie off when you need it. It has a z shaped zig zag that it useful for applique. I have a few accessories that make the machine more ideal for what I do with it. I have a small extension table. I also bought an open toe applique foot, and a clear foot for 1/4 inch seams. When sewing flying geese, I did find that this machine wanted to pull points into the needle plate more than my home sewing machine. A straight stitch plate solved that issue. The LED lights on this machine are wonderful - nice and bright without being hot. The instruction manual is helpful and clear. I like the hard cover for transporting the machine. This machine suits my needs well, and I would recommend it to others.

I had been looking for a small sewing machine to take to class and this one sure fits the bill. It is light, about 12 lb. and has all the features I would need for a class. One of my favorites is the ability to sew and 1/4" seem without having to change the foot. Nice solid sewing machine and would suggest to anyone
