I purchased this sewing machine as a gift for my grand-children. When it arrived, I checked it out to make sure it worked well and was a good machine for them. I read the manual to learn about its' features and made all the stitches on a scrap of material. The machine is quiet, runs smoothly and makes beautiful stitches, plus it is lightweight and easy to transport.I was so thrilled that I kept raving, to my husband, about what a great little machine it is. In fact, I liked it so much, I decided to keep it for myself and I had to order another one for my grandchildren. This machine is way better than many machines that cost much more. I already have a Bernina (expensive) and a Singer Featherweight but I fell in love with this sewing machine. I would recommend it to anyone and, in fact, I did. I told two my friends about it and they each bought one.

Best machine I have owned!!!!,

I learnt to sew at the age of 5 and sewed in the Apparel sewing business for over 25 years. I sewed on every machine out there. Ten years ago I started my own small dog clothes business. Three years ago I decided to invest in a new machine, after reviewing Berninas and how they were Swiss made, decided to invest over a thousand dollars into one! Much to my disappointment the machine did not live up to the reviews I read! Yes the Bernina can sew most everything, but what they fail to tell you, you must buy a presser foot for all different fabrics and the feet are NOT cheap. Later found out my machine was NOT Swiss made but made in China, which Bernina fails to tell you! After years of cursing with the Bernina, I decided to try this machine! From the time I turned it on was so impressed!! The ease of threading (both bobbin and needle) The feeding of the fabric is just amazing! I sewed through cotton, satin stretch knit and Leather with no adjustment of anything! Goes from thin fabric to thick with not problems, It actually sewed 3/4 inch of fabric swatch with no problems! It also has a clear bobbin covering so you don't need to run out of bobbin thread any more with just inches to sew! At the price I paid for this machine could of bought 4 for the price I paid for the Bernina! This machine is great for the beginner, with 3 speed settings or the advanced sewer! If you are looking for a good basic quality, friendly machine this is the machine to invest in!!!

I have had Wards, Sears, Bernina, and Janome sewing machines. My Janomes have been my favorites. They make a wonderful tight stitch. They are easy to use, quite and smooth. This one is very nice. I purchased it through Amazon as a reconditioned machine. It is new. Everything is flawless. I use it to take to quilt guild for piecing. My 8 year old granddaughter has been learning to sew on it. She loves the decorative stitches. It is simple to operate and any level sewer can use well. I would buy it again.

I'm an intermediate, just getting back into sewing, and I was looking for a good machine to help me grow my skills -- without being overwhelming. I did a lot of research and settled on this one. Maybe others would have been just as good, but I love my new Janome. Easy and quiet, clear instructions, simple to thread, enough different stitches for me, including a buttonhole. I love the needle threader, and I love that I can set the maximum speed, which is great when I am trying something new. No complaints so far, just fun!UPDATE: I have had this machine for over a year now and I still love it. I have used it on layers of heavy canvas & blackout lining as well as the flimsiest voile, and it worked equally well. It's done everything I needed it to do, and I'm looking forward to lots more new projects as well.

I did my homework before purchasing this sewing machine. You really get good value for the price. So far I've been able to sew denim without any problems. This was my first machine and I was able to start sewing really quick. The machine is nice and quiet. I wish the instructions had included a dvd but you only get a booklet. I recommend this machine it does everything you expect.

Per my wife, the machine is easy to use. She loves the ability to wind thread on another bobbin without taking the existing spool of thread off the machine. Good price for the value.

I've had this machine for over a month now, and I am quite satisfied with the purchase. I wanted the Magnolia (it's pretty) but this one came with free super saver shipping, and it was a lot cheaper - otherwise the exact same machine as the Magnolia, so how could I not buy it?I'm glad I did. All the stitches I've used so far work well, though occasionally it will drop a stitch in some of the zigzag patterns. Bobbin loading is very easy, but I wish the little clear plastic door did not remove completely. I just know it's going to get lost some day, same with the white plastic disc that holds the thread spool on. This machine has the automatic speed control, but I learned to sew with a foot pedal, and it is second nature. However, when my 7 year old uses the machine, it is very easy to set the speed control to a slow speed for her, as she can't reach the foot pedal ;-) The needle position (up or down) memory button is a great feature to have. Stitch selections are easy to use, and the machine runs very quietly. It is really a great little mid-range machine, and definitely the better buy than the Magnolia, where you pay a hundred dollars for cheap stick on graphics! (And it still doesn't look like the old manual Singers.)

I just received my Janome 8077 and it was shipped promptly. I am an intermediate sewer. This machine is such a pleasure to use and the instructions are very easy to understand. I was sewing in a matter of 1/2 hour. The features of this machine are fantastic and I am looking forward to years of sewing with this machine.

Okay Machine, but disappointing features and not much fun!,
This review is from: Janome 8077 Computerized Sewing Machine with 30 Built-In Stitches
I have owned this machine for three years and it is okay, but not great. After 40 years of sewing on on all types of machines, I bought this electronic machine to replace my 25 year-old computerized and mechanical machines, which are no longer made. I did research including contacting the warranty mechanic. He recommended that I find a mid-range machine as it was better priced than other ooptions. This was on sale at the fabric store and the basic model looked reasonable. The PROS: It is lightweight and easy to move. It is easy to thread and the automatic needle up and down feature is nice. It has a clear bobbin plate and it has three plus needle positions. It does darning and mending stitches in addition to decorative stitches. It is an electronic machine (more on that later) and is fairly quiet. It is pre-programmed and supposedly you can memorize stitches. If only it had a manual that addressed features, it might be more fun to use. Sad, really to leave so much wanting when it could have been a home-run price. The price was manageable. The CONS: The manual is AWFUL and a big let down for me. Despite being in three languages, the diagrams are useless and sad because I would love to get the most from the machine. This spring I tried to make a garmennt bag as a present and was a farce of sorts. It took forever as it did not work against three layers of cotton. I saved up to go back to the future, using my serger for consistency. Such a shame for us all. Maybe the manual is improved by now, but don't count on the manual, take a class at your local retailer. Be careful, thorough - Keep Looking and testing machines: I found a 40-year old used industrial (mechanical) machine and got the power I needed. I use this Janome model in addition to my new-ish industrial machine. There is limited power with this machine. Electronic Machines: It is an electronic machine with a typical 5 second delay after you depress the pedal. That took getting used to. This gutless wonder machine is very slow and it does not sew denim well. When it meets resistance, it stalls, then re-sets the maSewing Velcro or other heavy fabrics for that matter tries your patience. Velcro won't sew well and it shreds the thread until it breaks. You really have to pay close attention in order to avoid thread breaks. There only two speeds - "slow" and "not so slow" both disappointing for me given the straight seams I needed to sew. The buttonhole attachment is disappointing and despite 4 decades experiences, I cannot use it. The zipper foot is absurd. I quit using the attachment, Finally I bought an old industrial machine for the sewing of jeans and tote bags. Janome could do a better job on the manual for the end user! It is not easy to use at first as the instruction manual is so poor. The diagrams are useless and there was no help on the website. While quiet, it does not sew well through thick fabrics for me. When it meets resistance, it jams and shuts down. Then I have to re-program the stitches. I got so frustrated that I found and bought an industrial mechanical machine. It enabled me to sew through lots of denim. Other options: A friend loves her Brother embroidery machine which cost only a little more. Take a look before you dive in. Bring samples of what you wish to sew with you. Consider a Test drive on the models in the store before you take it home. SewSparakle

This Janome model replaces a 50 year old Signature (Montgomery Ward) that still works. The Janome is much lighterbut solid. It quietly sews well and is easy to use. The built in stitches work very well and are simple to select. This is a fine machine for a beginning or intermediate user. |
