My old machine finally bit the dust and I began a detailed search for a new sewing machine by reading blogs, visiting retail merchants as well as many online investigations and price comparisons. I decided on a Janome- and wanted an affordable computerized machine. I have over 40 years of sewing experience, and can pretty much sew anything at this point but I had never owned a computerized machine... ashamed it took me this long to buy one!! I also chose to buy from Amazon despite the numerous sales pitches about "free service and training" from a local retailer for an additional $ 100-150 cost. YouTube provides an amazing array of training videos designated by sewing machine brands and models... no need to travel to learn about this machine. The machine arrived within two days, in perfect condition after being shipped from TX to CT.
Now the BEST part- this machine is QUIET, STURDY, FAST, EASY TO USE, and dependable!! The instruction book is written in detail and sequential steps to help even a novice understand the workings of the machine. My old presser feet fit this machine and that was a blessing because I had about 20 different ones that I use.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MACHINE to sewing hobbyist of all levels.

The last time I used a sewing machine was in middle school, in the early 70's, so that gives you an idea how "new" I am again to sewing. I still have my mother's old workhorse cast-iron Singer, bought in the late 60's when zig-zag was all the rage, but it only gets used when my mother visits and she uses it for alterations or other small jobs. Well, recently I had a few projects for her and she said last time she used her old Singer, it was out of adjustment and was not working well enough to use without a repair. Now, that machine, while old, is a heavy workhorse and is built much better than anything you can get today, but I was under a time-crunch and could not wait to get it repaired. I thought it was time to buy myself and my mom a more updated machine that had some bells and whistles. As I read the reviews, I could see that the quality control of these new machines of all brands was not very good. So I again debated on having the old one repaired if I could find a place to do it quickly. Unfortunately that was not to be, so I decided with Amazon I could have a brand new machine in my hands the next day and I would deal with the repair later. Never a bad idea to have a backup. I read SO many reviews, but finally I narrowed it down to the Janome machines. I was considering the low end Husqvarna Viking since they are sold at Joann and it would be convenient to get help there, but it was made just as cheaply as the cheap ones, didn't do anything special feature-wise and was very expensive - same with Bernina. I needed a basic machine that did a few extras and that was build decently - and I hate to say it, but I also wanted one that looked good - not old-fashioned, but up to date.Read more ›

I searched the web for a sewing machine to replace my 21 year old Singer and decided the Janome had all the features I was looking for. It has good instructions, easy to follow, it's easy to thread, and the needle threader is simplified, easy to fill the bobbin and is very quiet. I love all the 50 different stitches and it does that with a touch of a button. I would definitely recommend this machine. Love it!

After researching various machines I asked the employees at the local quilt shop what they recommended and Janome was their choice. I researched Janome and decided the DC 2014 was for me. It was delivered Feb. 4. My machine worked perfectly right out of the box and I was able to thread it and wind the bobbin the first time I tried. Since then I have completed my first quilt and repaired seven horse blankets with a zigzag stitch to fix everything from simple tears to reattaching a belly strap and sewing on a patch. I used a heavier needle supplied with the machine and polyester thread instead of the cotton thread and lighter needle I had used for my quilt. The presser foot lifts up pretty high, so thick projects like winter horse blankets are not a problem. I love the 1/4-inch foot for sewing seams for quilts.

I have not sewn since I was a teenager, and then I learned on a treadle machine, so buying a computerized machine with 50 stitches was quite ambitious. But this machine is a dream to work with and I'm looking forward to many sewing projects in the future. My next quilt class is March 22. Can't wait!

I have a 1990 Kenmore that I use for sewing. It doesn't handle multiple layers very well & someones the thread tangles. So I researched sewing machines & tested out quite a few. I tested a mechanical Bernina that was $900. Whew, I could not afford that but it did sew quite well. I tested Brother sewing machines and they seem good but when I sewed on this one I was sold. For the price it was the best computerized machine that I could afford. It is fairly quiet, sews a good straight stitch, sews over multiple layers really well (this was a selling point for me). Because I have been sewing for over 45 years. I am familiar about how to thread a machine & wind a bobbin, so this machine, for me, was very easy to learn. Just read the manual or go online to Crafty Gemini and see how to use it. I don't have any real complaints about this machine at all. I was a bit surprised that the cover did not attach to the machine like my old one. The colored cover over the threading disc is plastic. I know things change but my old machine is solid. This machine has a metal interior frame so that is a good selling point for me. The self threader works well just don't get frustrated and take your time; after a few times you will be a pro. I do love that the feed dogs drop for sewing buttons & free motion quilting. This also comes with a walking foot; another plus. The sewing feet snap on so I was able to use alll of my sewing feet from my Kenmore. So if you currently own a low shank machine with snap on feet they will most likely fit this machine. The up/down needle position is a super feature. Sure I could have a Singer or Brother with similar features for a lower price but after researching Janome and read so many good reviews about the company and their products I was sold. I purchased my online from Ken's Sewing Center. They have an Amazon store as well but I called the store and spoke with Kevin about this machine. He was very helpful & courteous. Ken's is about 1 1/2 hours from my home
