I only gave the Janome MC9500 4 stars because I haven't yet tried the embroidery feature, so can't yet judge that part.
So far however, the Janome MC9500 machine does everything I believe I will ever need and it does it all well. I love all of its many special, built-in stitches and am extremely happy with its overall performance.
This machine holds the tension (yeah!!!) so I can now retire my 35 year old workhorse that has always had tension issues.
This machine is heavy, which to me is a big plus because it won't be moving around or wobbling. I had originally purchased a cheaper, "heavy duty" machine made by Singer but sent it back because (1) I would have to hold it every time I pressed the reverse button so it wouldn't fall over and (2) it didn't meet my expectations for "heavy duty".
Since I recently ordered and received the stablizer and embroidery thread, I can't wait to try some of the built-in embroidery patterns and monogramming!

I've had this machine for two years and it is great! I use it for all kinds of sewing...quilting clothes making and defiantly embroidery! It is like having a sewing computer. My mom is almost 60 and she had a few " what's wrong" moment but if you look at the screen it will tell you. It tells you when the bobbin is running out and the presets are great.The embroidery takes patience because you have to put the embroidery hoop on your fabric just right so that your embroidering will come out just where you want it but once you have that it is seamless. Even the preset embroidering with more than one color is totally doable. Great machine!
