I was looking for a lightweight machine since I no longer do much sewing and I got tired of dragging out my 50 year old Necchi when I needed to do some repair. After reading all the reviews on the Janome 660,I ordered it. In the meantime I found the 661 and it had more features that I liked. I ordered the Jem Gold Plus and sent the 660 back without opening it. I haven't tried the serger yet but it sews like a dream, doesn't vibrate and is quiet. It has a beautiful, even straight stitch (no puckering), and the zig zags are all every even.

I have not yet had time to make anything yet but have tired it out on swatch fabric. Great idea to have a serger & sewing machine in the same machine. I thought it would be difficult to change from sewing to serging but the cutter is already on the machine, all you have to do is change the presser foot. The stitches are all uniform & you have a nice assortment of basic stitches. ( no useless bunnies or duckies!!!) Nice drop in bobbin. Only thing is 4 step buttonhole. That almost puts it into a 1 star!!!! I love my one steps...............!!!

Ive never owned a machine manufactured before 1970 so this machine may seem so great bc of its lightness and ease of use but I was looking for something that could be stowed easily and had an easy bobbin to use (could no longer lift my old one to access the bobbin). I didn't care about having a whole lot of stitch options but these are a good selection. And I absolutely love the server. Customer support from the vendor (ken's) was awesome.

I recently moved to a small town with no resource for a moderately priced machine, so I tea the reviews and took the plunge. Couldn't be happier. This is a great all round household machine. I've stitched filmy sheer curtain fabric and stiff canvas drop cloths with equal success.

I am very happy with this sewing machine. I didn't want a complicated sewing machine with hundreds of preset stitches. I would definitely recommend this machine more for beginners or people who are looking for a straight forward sewing machine rather than experts. The "light serging" feature was a neat little bonus that I've used a couple times to achieve a finished look on the seam. The sewing speed isn't fast, but since I am not a professional and usually don't have any large projects, this machine will fit my needs perfectly. I've been using it for about a week on a couple of Halloween costume touch ups and love it. I'm still not used to the presser foot lifter being to the right of the needle (all other sewing machines I've used have had the lifter on the back of the machine). It is smaller than I expected but, with each use, I like the size and light weight more. It is very easy to thread and to wind bobbins. The biggest issue that I have is with the length of the cord. Since I do all of my sewing on top of my dining room table, I would prefer a longer cord with more wiggle room on the floor. The foot control reaches the floor and does have a little extra to spare, but I would still like it to be about 6 inches longer. You will definitely need an extension cord unless you have a sewing table next to a wall outlet. Overall, I am very happy.

I love, love, love this multi-talented Janome sewing machine. I now have over 10 sewing machines plus a Babylock serger and this Janome is by far my FAVORITE. I purchased this machine a year ago for just under $300 and I have been amazed by what an awesome machine iit is.
I am very happy with the stitch quality, stitch variety, and the overall dependability of this 3/4 size, lightweight, portable sewing machine. The built in serger system allows you to finish the edge with a variety of edge stitches and trim just like a regular serger/overlock.
Additionally, the Janome "Light Serging System" (LSS) system is WAY BETTER SYSTEM than the SInger "serger" attachment that can be purchased online (major waste of cash in my opinion.) The Janome LSS is sharp, accurate and cuts right through even midweight denims. The sewing machine function of this Janome has no problem going through multiple layers of denim and has become my "go-to" machine for topstitching custom jeans because of the dependable power and stitch quality. Furthermore, The Janome serging system can be easily disengaged by just pushing a button and swinging the cutting blades up and out of the way---thus allowing it to function as a regular sewing machine. No tools needed, SUPER EASY TO USE!

I have been researching to find the perfect machine for myself for several months. I do not do a lot of sewing, but decided I would do more if I had a good machine that was built well and easy to use. I somehow stumbled upon this one, and could find no negatives. To me, the bonus was the built in serger. It does not have a lot of fancy stitches, but I never used any of those with my old machine.
The main factors were a machine that was built well, would last, and was also going to work when I sat down to use it without a lot of little problems. I did not sew enough to recognize what is wrong when the machine stops working. This machine does not have a lot of issues with the thread gathering up beneath the fabric, or just locking up for some unexplained reason.
Since buying this machine, I have learned more about machines and what to do when there are little problems. The main reason for this, I believe, is because I am using my machine more, and getting not having as many glitches. So I was able to not freak out when there was a problem, because it was rare.
The manual is not very extensive, but I have found some very helpful blogs on sewing (via Pinterest) that I have used when I do encounter small issues. One of the worst problems I had turned out to be that I was using a bad spool of thread.
Overall, I love this machine, and the lightweight and portable feature makes it the perfect machine for me as well.
