Book Description

April 7, 2008
Men couldn't help but be drawn to her exquisite beauty and incomparable grace. But Thandy knew Dr. Jackson Gabrielle was different the minute they met. And indeed, Jack knew that this enchanting creature was meant for him, despite the fact that he was already married.

Thandy and Jack's decade-long affair might have been continued indefinitely, the hard-working attorney and the high-profile surgeon scraping together moments for each other out of their crazed schedules, if Thandy hadn't learned from Jack's bitter wife that he had taken up with yet another woman. Thandy moves on, leaving Jack in Atlanta for a big job in Chicago. Jack, used to getting everything he has ever wanted with ease, is forced to figure out what it takes to hold on to something he loves. And Thandy, having fought her whole life for everything she has achieved, realizes the true measure of her strength. But fate intervenes and sets into motion a series of events leading to a shocking climax that forever changes everything.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Thandywaye Malone is a beautiful and educated woman with a rough upbringing that led her to leave home as a teenager. Subsequently, she got pregnant and married a caring older man who bankrolled their lifestyle on profits from his drug trafficking operation. After he got arrested, she was left on the streets. Now, in her 30s, Thandy has a high-powered job in Atlanta, but low self-esteem. In comes slick-talking Jackson Gabrielle, an old money, married-with-kids surgeon who sweet-talks Thandy into an affair. She eventually ditches him for an even better job in Chicago. Unfortunately, Jack is portrayed as such a louse (cheater, manipulative, woman-beater) that when he and Thandy get back together, the reader has no sympathy left for him. The choppy narrative and flat characters don't do the book any favors, either. (Apr.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Is It Over?, April 7, 2008
This review is from: The January Girl (Paperback)
The January Girl by Goldie Taylor is the story of Thandywaye Malone. Thandy, as she is known, is a stunningly beautiful woman with one child and a life filled with overcoming bad situations. She left home at fifteen after being beaten severely by her father. Thandy discovers she is pregnant by twenty-five year old Monty, who marries her and moves her to Atlanta. For a few years she lives in the lap of luxury, only to discover that Monty is a drug kingpin. Once Monty is arrested and sentenced to three life sentences, she and her daughter, Montana, live a life of poverty. However, Thandy's natural smarts and ambitions cause her to work hard to provide for herself and her daughter and she even graduates from law school. Everything seems to be on the right path; she falls in love with the very handsome surgeon, Dr. Jackson Gabrielle, who takes care of her better than anyone ever has. Life seems almost too good to be true and considering all that Thandy has been through it probably is.

Jack Gabrielle is married to Etienne and father to two sons. For years he has devoted himself to his very successful practice and a string of affairs. Etienne is married to her love for vodka. Once Jack meets Thandy he falls head over heels in love with her, giving her everything a woman could want, except marriage. Thandy allows Jack to stay in her life for ten years until she discovers Jack is cheating on her and Etienne. She immediately leaves Atlanta, giving him back his million-dollar condo and goes off to forge her own future as president of a large investment company in Chicago. Jack, however, is bound and determined to get her back no matter what. There are, of course, people, and situations standing in the way of his plans. Most importantly, is Thandy willing to allow Jack back in her life?

The January Girl is well-told story filled with lies, secrets and acts of desperation. We are allowed to see love, hate, while feeling for the characters and their lives. I recommend this novel to all readers who enjoy fast-paced novels with just enough romance and drama.

This was the first time I read something by this author and it won't be the last. Although the book started off kinda slow and went into details alot, it was still enjoyable and held my attention. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to your next book.

I have to tell you that I have gotten to know Goldie a little because I saw an interview she did that touched my soul. I started chatting with her and found out more about her and her family and she is one of the most AMAZING people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. This book along with her first book "In My Fathers House" are PROFOUND. I will not give anything away because you need to be touched by this artists writing in order to really get what I would tell you anyway. They are both in my TOP 5 Books and I am looking forward to more from this AMAZING "LADY". She is a single mother who given the chance will revolutionize our ways of life. She really is an amazing author and the book is really GREAT and a MUST read. PLEASE BUY THESE and don't buy one because you are going to want to give them as gifts too. I have numerous of this book, however I am awaiting my copy of "In My Fathers House". GREAT GIFT FOR ANYTHING!!!! GREAT WOMAN AND ARTIST!!!!
