One can't keep up with this session. I once had a party where people were unfamiliar wiht both jazz and Cannonball totally freaked out, because this is to funky. The playing of Cannonball himself, and Nat especially, is so intense that it is no surprice that they put the audience on fire. And Zawinul just keeps on building up solos. Every time you think it's over, he starts all over again, making it even more funky. Cannonball made so many wonderfull live-recordings, each with different qualities. If you are looking for the uncompromising funky cannonball, this is it.

Both these albums are favorites of mine! There is so much happiness, elation and soul that it elevates the listener to another level of existence and perception!

I HEARD THE SONG, JIVE SAMBA ON THE RADIO AND JUST LOST MY MIND!
I WAS IN THE CAR AND I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE RADIO STATION AND SAID, "WHO IS THAT!" I WOULD HAVE GONE TO THE END OF THE EARTH, LITERALLY, TO FIND THIS ALBUM! THIS QUINTET IS SPECIAL BECAUSE THEY DON'T JUST SUPPORT CANNONBALL, THEY SEEM TO PUSH HIM! THE SUPPORT IS EXCEPTIONAL. I GREW UP LISTENING TO CANNONBALL (HE WAS MY DAD'S FAVORITE!!!), BUT I'VE NEVER HEARD HIM PLAY BETTER! IF YOU ONLY HAVE ONE CD IN YOUR COLLECTION, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND MAKE THIS THE ONE; YOU WON'T BE SORRY!!!

i've only heard one song from this CD, on the radio: The Work Song. It absolutely floored me. The group is so incredibly tight, and cannonball is all over the place. I was driving while i heard it, and as cannonball got more and more funky, and the group just laid in the groove, i found myself going faster and faster, the music just gets under your skin. i haven't heard the whole thing, so i'm not qualified to critique the whole thing, but from what i heard, this CD is worth ten times what they ask for it.
