1.0 out of 5 stars Master Jazz musicians playing Master crap., November 4, 2009
This review is from: Japan Suite (Audio CD)
on an individual level each one of these musicians is truly brilliant, and have had success throughout the years with their own bands. The late Paul Bley was a catalyst piano player from the early avant garde. as well as Bassist Gary Peacock who played with Albert Ayler on the one and only spiritual unity esp release that put Ayler on the map. The very capable Barry Altschul played drums for many years with Anthony Braxton, no stranger to the free Jazz movement. in fact one could have only guessed that this trio would have been dynamite to hear. but this recording is some of the worst improvising I've ever heard from great would be known improvisers. at many times in this record it sounds like these guys are either on Quaaludes or have completely giving up on the presented ideas their improvising on. almost no congeniality, no passion, no direction, no point. these guys should have stayed home that night and slept in their beds instead of during the recording.
