This review is from: Japanese BEAST WARS D-44 Transformers Tarantulus (Toy)
As someone who grew up on Beast Wars, I love rediscovering all these old toys. Compared to Optimus Primal and Rattrap (the other 2 Transmetal Beast Wars toys I own), Tarantulus is my favorite to actually transform, and he's just as cool-looking. I'm studying mechanical engineering, so you can imagine that the way these things transform and how everything fits together is particularly exciting for me.
What separates Tarantulus from the rest - in my opinion - is the wheel/shoulders. The wheel of his vehicle mode splits apart and the two halves rotate up to be his shoulders; I wish more Transformers would move parts around in unexpected ways like this, since most of them you can tell just by looking at the non-robot modes where the robot arms, legs, etc. will appear. Yes, this version comes in a box without a word of English on it, and I've heard complaints about the paint job. If you desperately need English instructions then you can find websites with archives; as for the paint job, I think only experts interested in the long term value might be annoyed with it, but if you're just looking to play then it's a great toy.

Tarantulas is great, and for $[...] I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get one of these...I'm very glad I did, he makes an excellent display piece. I believe the instructions are in Chinese, but not sure...in any case they're not in English and it's pretty hard to figure Tarantulas' transformation out the first time. He holds together well, and can change into spider, robot, and 'motorcycle' modes. As a motorcycle, you'll need to keep him propped up with his legs because the front wheel is a handheld saw accessory that is somewhat thin. His head is a ball joint, and mine basically can't look straight forward (it always tilts toward his right slightly if I try to position it so). Also, the word DESTRON is printed in small letters on his back, which is probably a poor translation added on to this foreign remake. These are just little nit-picky things I thought I'd mention; minimal design flaws that detract very little from the quality of the product. Overall awesome figure.
