Book Description

April 2002
Elisabeth Legl has written an in-depth revision of her book, The Japanese Chin: The Dog from the Land of the Rising Sun. The Japanese Chin is said to be of royal blood, and was once available only to the very elite. Now you may find them in every corner of the globe, delighting their owners with their cat-like personalities. This book explains the history of the breed, influential kennels throughout the world, and the care and maintenance of the dog. There is an updated section on health issues that owners should be aware of, and information on activities that the owner and the Japanese Chin can enjoy together. She has included a piece written by Dale Mortenson, a long time breeder, on choosing a Chin puppy, as well as a thorough discussion of the breed standard. There is also an eight page color section of many of the champions and other beautiful Japanese Chin.

Readers will come to know and love the little lap dog from the Far East after reading this detailed book on the Japanese Chin.

About the Author

Since early childhood, Elisabeth Legl has been attracted to dogs. Born and raised in
Sweden, it is not surprising that her first dog was a Swedish Lapphund, the native dog of
Sweden, that is sometimes used for the herding of reindeer in northern Scandinavia. Over
the years there has been a constant succession of dogs in her life since the 1960's only
Asiatic breeds, whose history fascinates her.
Beside her profession as a university teacher in linguistics, she writes breed books,
mainly in Swedish. It was during the late 1970's that her first book, The Shih-tzu, appeared,
a book which completely sold out, as did her first book in English, East Asiatic
Breeds.
During recent years, Elisabeth Legl has been writing several more books in Swedish.
These include The Lapphund, The Chow Chow, The Pekingese and The Tibetan Breeds.
Elisabeth Legl has also had several judging assignments, both in Sweden and in England. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Japanese Chin book, December 15, 2002
This review is from: The Japanese Chin: Dog from the Land of the Rising Sun (Paperback)
This book has everything on the Japanese Chin. It is the best book ever written on the breed for history in the East and the West, personality, care, nutrition, health problems and much more. It is not only for people who want to have a show dog but also for the petowners. In other words a complete and thorough book - a must for anyone interested in the Japanese Chin.
