lots of practice squares for learning the writing of the idividual hiragana.. then after learning a few you get to see and copy full sentences in hiragana.. this really helps.. i used this book together with Japanese Hiragana for Beginners: First Steps to Mastering the Japanese Writing System (Japanese Edition)..

pretty much the whole second half of the book is practicing writing sentences and words.. it even has a section for onomatopoeia.. then there are pages in the back for practicing writing your own sentences

This book is boring and inelegant. Absolutely NOT for adults. I got to page 17 and couldn't stand it anymore.
