5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, March 7, 2004

This review is from: Japanese Kanji Flashcards 1 (Cards)
These are a very solid set of flashcards. I ordered mine from the publisher so I got them a little faster than what was listed here, but in any case...

I guess the description on Amazon's page is pretty accurate. They are geared directly towards the JLPT levels 4 and 3, and it's easy to tell which kanji are for the level 4 and which are for the level 3 just by looking at the color of the ink on the card. So if you're only studying for level 4 then you don't have to worry about this being "too much" for you. The rounded edges are a nice bonus, I remember always poking myself with the Tuttle cards, and it was annoying. The cards are very sturdy and hard to bend, and have a great look to them.

Another advantage to these over the Tuttle cards is that they fit nicely into their box, whereas with the Tuttle cards it would take me a long time to get them in and out of the box. Perhaps because there's too many jammed into such a small box. Anyway, these cards also have more vocabulary which is nice.

Lastly, with these cards there seems to be a hint of more to come, because on each card it lists "similar looking" kanji, and it gives a number to the card that that kanji appears on. But sometimes the number on them will be like 1000 or something, which is obviously more than you get with this set, so the only thing I can figure is that they are planning to release sets for the level 2 and level 1 of the JLPT. If so, that would be really awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Revised Edition Available ISBN 0974869422, June 3, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Japanese Kanji Flashcards 1 (Cards)
Japanese Kanji Flascards 1 is the top-selling Japanese kanji product in bookstores across Japan and on Amazon.com. There is a Revised Edition of this product, but unfortunately Amazon.com is hiding it from the search results. Despite our many complaints, Amazon chooses to show the now OUT-OF-PRINT first-edition but not the current Revised Edition in the search results for "Japanese Kanji Flashcards". You can find the Revised Edition by searching for the product's ISBN number: "0974869422"

We are very sorry for the inconveience caused by Amazon.com's poor decision-making in making the Revised Edition of this product so difficult to find.

5.0 out of 5 stars White Rabbit Press "Japanese Kanji Flashcards" Are The Best!!!, December 3, 2005
This review is from: Japanese Kanji Flashcards 1 (Cards)
As an owner and user of the three main competing sets of Kanji flashcards available on the market today, I can safely say that Vol. 1 and the recently issued Vol. 2 of the "Japanese Kanji Flashcards" co-designed by Max Hodges and Tomoko Okazaki and published by White Rabbit Press are peerless. They are very attractively designed and convenient to use -- I love their larger size, their legibility, their durability (plastic coating, rounded corners, and storage tray) -- and the very comprehensive information shown on each card (stroke order diagram, 6 compounds per card, breakdown into elements, flagging of look-alike kanji). I also love the fact that these two volumes cover a large number of kanji and are tied to different levels of the JLPT. I can hardly wait for the next volumes to come out so that all 2,000+ educational and common-use kanji are available in this format!!! THESE CARDS ARE A "MUST-BUY" FOR ANY SERIOUS LEARNER OF JAPANESE !!!
