I have been using bamboo steamers since 1970 and this steamer is like my old ones. Some do not have the bamboo slats woven together on the racks, but this does. Some steamers are very heavy and trap in the moisture which causes the steamer to mold or deteriorate very quickly. This one is inexpensive and does a superior job.

Love this steamer. I have had this item over two years. It still does the job. Perfect for a couple or small family of 4. Making steamed buns, veggies, fish, and dumplings in this thing is a breeze. Also impresses guest. Also makes your home smell of yummy eats and bamboo. If you can get them in your area, banana leaves are great to use as a barrier, so that you don’t damage or stain your steamer. They also add great flavor to your dishes. You can also buy them dried and reanimate them. Parchment works too. Also which is available in large quantities in Texas and surely in your area too, are corn husk. Usually found in the Spanish aisle of your local grocer. They add flavor to your dishes as well.

Soak this thing when you first get it and then steam it for a while solo. The water is going to be a gross color at first. With time it will be less and less and eventually no color will show up. For our fish lovers, steam the steamer for 30 minutes after cooking . Give it a good soak, let it dry. If there’s still an odor, when storing I put a small ramekin or glass dish with a few table spoons of baking soda on the bottom and top layer and store. Careful not to store when wet. Also check on it periodically while drying out. Layers and lid will warp, due to the fact that a circle is not bamboo’s natural shape. Stack towards the end of drying so that pieces will fit one another for next round of cooking. Better then metal due to delicate veggies will turn to mush on the hot surface. Bamboo’s surface doesn’t get so hot.

Well worth the money. I recommend this to anyone who like steamed goodies and want to try something new. You'll find yourself using it more then you thought.

I Love the Bamboo steamer, when I first got it I looked at it and didn't think it would work at all, but I tried it with chicken breasts and to my amazement the chicken was some of the best chicken I have ever eaten or made, it was super tender and juicy, steaming makes the food soo much better, even my frozen veggies are amazing steamed. The only negative thing is that it didn't come with instructions or how long to cook what, I had to look up how long to cook my food online but it wasnt that much of a burden. If you haven't used this before you really should!
P.S I really have never cooked before so it is easy for people who arent that experienced in the kitchen :)

Bought this for my partner to steam her pork buns in our wok. The tiers are not all that tall, probably about an inch - inch and a half high, but plenty of room for its purpose. Pretty sturdy and good quality for the price. Just make sure to wipe it out when finished with it (don't soak it in water!) and when it is drying rub entirety with a small amount of mineral or olive oil to keep the bamboo from drying out and splintering.

I received this steamer today and if not for the
shipping cost to return it, it would already be
heading back to Amazon.

The lid doesn't fit properly nor do the trays.
It's best used for kindling wood, not for food/steaming.
In addition, it has numerous bamboo "fibers" hanging
out through out the steamer. JUNK!

Look elsewhere for a quality steamer.
I found a nice one at Sur la Table and had also
ordered it at the same time as I ordered this.

The difference between the two is like "night
and day! !!

I really like this little steamer, it fits perfectly onto a small pot. The only problem I had was the handle on the top of the lid arrived broken. Because of this I would likely have chosen a different vendor.

In great condition and exactly as promised, I just pictured them bigger than they actually were. If you plan on using them for more than a couple, say for a family, go bigger.

This bamboo steamer is fairly well made. There are places where you can see the supports that are used to hold the slats on the bottom in. Looks like it may not be able to handle too much weight there. There are also some places where the bamboo is shedding/fraying. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but so far it looks like it will be okay, just remember that it is cheap and be careful with it and I think you should be fine. Oh and watch out some of the weaving will have to be tightened to keep it together.
