The English subtitles for this movie stink (I wanted to use another word that starts with 's' and ends with 'k', but "stink" will have to do).
Which is a shame, because this movie is a beautiful re-telling of Akira Kurosawa's _The Hidden Fortress_, and so far (haven't finished watching it yet), seems fairly faithful to the original. Fortunately for me, I've studied Japanese. The Japanese subtitles were done with more expertise. They actually fit the dialogue. So I can always pause the movie and look up what the subtitles mean, and learn some more Japanese in the process. But a lot of you aren't in my position. So stay with the original 1950's Kurosawa version. It's still a great film, _desu ne_?

worst remake ever,

If you are a fan of Kurosawa's "Hidden Fortress", and are potentially interested in this remake, SAVE YOUR MONEY. Poorly conceived, poorly cast, poorly directed, and as noted by the other reviewer, very poorly subtitled. Stick with Kurosawa's sparkling gem.
