I absolutely adore this fan! The color of the front is a little tiny bit metallic, which isn't obvious, and the bamboo pattern is semi-transparent - a thin black film is all that separates you from peeking through the leaves!

I play with it constantly, and it's a great help with the texas heat.

Like many women of a certain age, I have hot flashes (and have had for 22 years instead of the "couple of years" that was predicted by my doc). I bought a pretty fan at the MoMA gift shop some 30 years ago, having no idea it would end up a tool rather than a decoration. It's showing its age so I bit the bullet and started shopping with great trepidation. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this fan. I feared it would look like a cheap Chinatown souvenir shop item, but it's actually quite tasteful and subtle. It's very sturdy and, at 8-1/4", easy to slip in my purse. The bamboo feels suspiciously like plastic, but it's not tacky. In fact, it's smoother than bamboo and is very comfortable to handle. The picture above actually is the "wrong" side of the fan. The paper is a nice textured grey (paper overlaid with a very fine black mesh fabric. The leaves are actually transparent (paper is cut out, leaving just the black mesh fabric). Overall, a good purchase and keeps me from having to flap at myself with the nearest magazine, napkin, or piece of junk mail.
