This book is a treasure for anyone interested in utanikki (Japanese poem diaries). The beauty of this genre of literature far surpasses the norm of what an individual would find. Buy this book and spread the news of utanikki...it's painfully under appreciated outside of Japan...Masaoka Shiki's "Verse Record of My Peonies" is delicately sorrowful, Tosa Nikki is exciting and Izumi Shikibu Nikki is undyingly romantic...Basho is as great as ever. Hunt this book down and buy it!
