I was looking for a portable can opener similar to the P-51 military model. This fits the bill extremely well. The can opening blade is curved to the contour of the can so that you don't get jagged edges on the can. The can opener itself is made of strong metal and the unit does not bend or flex like some of the low end P-51 openers I've owned.

You cannot see it clearly in the pictures, but the unit also has a bottle opener on it as well.

The only drawback is the can opening blade doesn't collapse; but the whole thing fits in a mint tin for safe transport.

Highly recommended for folks looking for a compact and sturdy portable / emergency can opener.

After my $10 "Made in China" can opener broke within a few months of purchase, I was determined to find a good-quality, well-made can opener that will hold up. I thought about the old military-style openers that came with the c-rations, and remembered how well those worked, so I bought some of those that are on sale at amazon, as well as this one. Both work great. This one is not as compact as the old-style G.I. openers (although it's the same design concept), but the extra bulk and rigidity makes it easier to grip. It also serves as a bottle top popper. I am very happy with this purchase. If you are tired of having cheap-made gadgets break on you, this one won't disappoint you.

This can opener is great for the traveler and camper. Small easy to pack, high quality durable materials. It also works great and it is easy to use. It also has a bottle cap opener. I travel a lot and take caned tuna on my trips. This can opener is exactly what I was looking for!

I've been looking for this for a long time, since all my can openers wore off after 10-20 uses.. My family has a similar one since I was a child, and my father is still using the very same one after some 40 years.. The mechanism is simple, unlike most in the market, there's no latching parts that wear off after a while.. This one will be around for a long time to come..

I really like it. I don't like those standard american can openers that we have to turn. This one does the job way better. It is a little small, but then again it is supposed to be portable.

I recommend it.

I have had manual can oppeners from EKO, from IKEA, from other major brands and these always end up not working. I had been looking for this product for quite a while thinking it was a german design and to my surprise this Japanese design is just as good as the original geman one my parents had at home. I have now purchased several of these and given them as gifts. Believe me! it works GREAT!!!!!

Okay, I haven't used this style of opener in decades, and my technique is probably lousy. I found it difficult to open the can smoothly and it left debris inside when the lid was finally removed. I am a lefty, and this tool seemed particularly troublesome for me, even though I can cope with most things in the right-hand world. Quality seems quite good, but just doesn't work for me.

Just ok, the design needs improvement though. The blade gets stuck in the can because of "a notch" at its base. you have to wiggle it to get it off. There are better (same type) can openers available in Scandinavia but they're not selling them here for some reason. This can opener gets the job done but it's slow to use.

Simple and good design. I expected a little bit bigger one so that I need less power.

I ordered several of these. They are rugged and well constructed, and they work. But the finish isn't great - most of mine came with chipped enamel. Also, I thought I was getting red openers per the posted picture at the time, but received a metallic green for some. I think the Japanese Can Opener (Ganji Kankiri) I ordered from Amazon, while a tad more expensive, is much better if you don't need the ultra compact size (see my review for that item).

I do recommend these if you want a reliable opener that is ultra portable.
