5.0 out of 5 stars Japanese Prints
As usual, the Taschen publishers have done a choice job of reproducing great art. The pieces are laid out harmoniously with one another as well as with the text, through and through. It is beautifully bound, and has a lovely dust cover. Prints are high quality, clear reproductions, and are primarily in color. This is important to me in a book on an artistic style, that...

1.0 out of 5 stars Reproductions truly awful
Don't waste your time buying these earlier editions of this book all the prints look brown, the colours are way off. They look awful. I compared them with the newer edition of this book (2007) and the newer edition is much better but honestly I think there are way better books on Japanese prints out there the Gian Carlo titles for example I would buy one of them instead.

This is important to me in a book on an artistic style, that relies heavily on color to be successful. Well worth the price, list or not.

I don't really know anything about Japanese artwork or famous artists-I bought this book a couple years ago for the pictures of the Samurai. Because of this, all I can really say is that it is a well laid-out and attractive book full of beautiful Japanese art depicting all kinds of scenes and subjects. It makes a great coffee-table book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!, March 21, 2008

This is a really good book on the ukiyo-e art of Japan. The more celebrated of artists are represented, including Hiroshige and his views of Edo (Tokyo), Hokusai's Mt. Fuji work, and Utamaro's geishas. Taschen is always good with its reproductions and the art looks great on the page. There are good essays on the origins and history of the style, along with a glossary to help with unfamiliar terms. This is a very beautiful art form that is represented well in this collection of works.
