Another Beautiful Sashiko Book from Susan Briscoe,

This review is from: Japanese Sashiko Inspirations (Paperback)
Susan Briscoe's Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook The Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook: Patterns, Projects and Inspirations was out of print and selling for very high prices on the Internet, but is now available again, unfortunately still expensive. If you cannot afford the prices on that version, you can also learn to do sashiko from her second book on the subject. In some ways I like the second book better than the first, because the author has unleashed her considerable creativity to show how to produce table runners, drink coasters, album covers, a sofa throw, pillows, a bed bolster, needle cases and pincushions, pillow covers, sachets, book covers, a screen, placemats, napkins, a drawstring bag and other items. Included are beautiful line drawings in Japanese themes (geometric designs, koi, turtles, pine boughs, paulownia crests, noshi, etc.) that can be enlarged for patterns. The inspiration gallery is ... inspiring. All of the basic information about tools, materials and basic instructions are part of this second work. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in either learning the basics of sashiko or expanding their repertoire for its possible uses.

Wonderful Style for Quilters,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Japanese Sashiko Inspirations (Paperback)
I have been looking for a form of hand quilting that makes more sense than just the normal patterns used and one that goes into detail about imagery and fibers. This book explains a simple form of hand quilting that is just wonderful and more important explains the reason behind each image. Of course you can take it to a more complicated level if you want, because the information within shows you how. But if you just want to do somehting small and lovely the instructions are clear and easy to follow. I also liked the information about the materials and fibers used to create these wonderful pieces.
This is what I have been looking for and with this stitching form I can create my own images for my quilts, giving them more meaning for me as well as for the receiver. The book is simple to use and is a good reference for beginning hand quilters with great photos and good reference resources.
