I am a professional chef and like to prepare sushi at home. But, my western style steel colander wasn't the right size for sushi rice and to harsh on the rice as I was cleaning it. I ordered this real Japanese fruit and rice washer from (japan super mall) and what a difference it makes! The bottom of the colander has very small drainage holes which are much smaller than a western style colander. Plus, its made out of a see through strong plastic which is much more gentle on the rice when its washed, swirled, and strained. In addition, there is a pour spout which is not on the top lip, but is located below the top and allows you to keep the rice from flowing out as you wash it. Before I had to use three things; 1. a pot, 2. a bowl, and 3. a strainer. Now I use just the washer by itself. This is a product that is part of a culture and history from a country that is nearly 10,000 years old. It's not just a rice washer, its all the families that have made rice for thousands of years and know how to design a product that is simple, but true. The beauty of this product is that you can use it for any type of washing and straining during food preparation including rice, grains, and seeds such as Quinoa. Be gentile when washing and slowly pour the water out. If you go to fast the contents can get stuck in the drainage grid. This should not happen if you are slow and gentile. Sushi is a form of Culinary Art. At this price its a steal!

Holes in the bottom are small enough so the water accumulates slowly and grains don't wedge in or fall through. One of the sides features larger openings allowing water escape faster when desired. Feet on the bottom distance the contents from sink's surface. Use it for all sorts of grains, not only rice. I'd not recommend it for pasta.

Bowl was made in Japan just as advertised and serves it purpose. The only thing that would make it better is if it were bpa free

I will never go back to washing rice in a bowl. This strainer effectively allows you to wash rice without losing half of it down the drain. Since it is somewhat large I can also use it for just about everything else from noodles to fruit.

It's excellent for its intended purpose. Unfortunately someone grabbed it without thinking to drain pasta. This bowl is not made for hot water! The plastic liner started pealing. I had to throw it out and order a new one and hide it.

Very easy to wash jasmine rice, but it would be nice to have markings for measurement. Also, the drainage hole in the spout should be in the main body, not the spout because when you transfer the rice to a pot, remaining water is also transferred. Overall, the product is quite useful and easy to clean up with soap and water.

I have tried a lot of bowls for cleaning rice and this is by far the best that I have ever used. I would gladly recommend this rice wash bowl to anyone and everyone.

Fantastic! No longer will I have to contend with gooey, sticky, boiling-over rice! If you've had the agony of trying to rinse rice in a pan, undrained bowl, or mesh colander/sieve, then you should buy this bowl and save yourself the time and trouble.
