Frozen food consumption in apart has begun to decline, and nobody can blame it on tainted dumplings from China. That scandal broke only in January, after the Japan Frozen Food Association (JFFA) had closed its books on 2007.
At 2.668,488 million tons, overall consumption was off 0.9% from 2006, even with a 1.4% increase in imported prepared foods to 419,796 tons. Imported frozen vegetables were down 1.3% to 821,128, but domestic production declined 1.1% to 1.527,564 million. Per capita consumption was off from 21.1 to 20.9 kilograms.
