Not what I expected,

I expected a normal sized laquered bowl when I ordered this. The lack of description on the product information leads you to believe it's a regular bowl. It's a small, plastic bowl, suitable for a childs toy. I guess it's okay based on the price but the description should be more forthcoming. Next time, I'll read reviews when an item seems too good to be true!!

These tiny little Japanese soup rice bowls are PLASTIC not Lacquer. I was so disappointed when I opened them. I can't give this set of four as a gift. They are smaller than expected and very cheap feeling. They do look like the photo, but it's the material I object to. I'm working on trying to return them.

Dont Buy This,

Japanese soup rice bowl with Lid NBK description had this item shipping weight at 2 pounds so from that and the described dimensions I was led to think this bowl would be a good size and have a good weight to to realistically put hot water in for noodles or rice soups, with no risk of tipping out, yet NO. This hazard was small and by far something you would utilize realistically for soups with out risk of over flow, mess, or worst burning. As for those 2 pounds the shipping was less than half a pound, so this bowl, if you can image was quite light and of such a thin material a mess was more likely that any real use out of it.

This is exactly what you would expect. A TRADITIONAL rice bowl. This isn't what you eat rice out of, its just a single serving (1-2 scoop) of rice intended for spooning onto your dish, etc. Just like the one's all over Japan, they are about 4 inches deep and hold a single serving.

This bowl isn't a huge bowl, but it isn't tiny by any means..It might be considered tiny to some if your expecting a huge bowl for this price. Though if your expecting to get a bowl that serves for at work for a sizable meal for rice or noodles, your set. It looks exactly how it does in the picture, this product is of Japanese craftsmanship and isn't a fraud like most from china. I've got a lot of compliments on this bowl from coworkers and recommend it to anyone. Hope this review helps.

These are not lacquer bowls. The description should be changed to be more accurate. Nonetheless, I like these bowels. My diet has changed to require 6 small meals in place of 3 large ones. These are perfect for this. I use them for rice, miso soup, noodles, and even salads. The lids can be flipped over and used for condiments. I also use both the bowls and lids for mise-en-place when I'm cooking. I like the fact that they are light weight, practically indestructible, more attractive (stylish), and more versatile than most plastic bowls. For my needs, they are just the right size.
