About the Author

About the Illustrator:
Jar Jar Binks artist Ken Steacy is a Canadian Air Force brat who decided at age eleven to become a professional comic book artist. He pursued this intent until the magic moment occurred in 1974 with the publication of Super Student, a two page strip that he wrote, penciled, inked and lettered. This holistic approach has been a hallmark of his work ever since, true to his belief that specialization is for insects, not artists.

He studied film and video as analogies to the sequential narrative at the Ontario College of Art, but drove his profs crazy by turning in comic strips instead of film or video. They finally figured out what he was up to and awarded him a pile of scholarships, including the Lieut. Governor's medal. Since then he has written and illustrated the exploits of practically every popular character you could name, including Astro Boy, Batman, Ironman, Spiderman, and Superman. His four major works in print are: The Sacred & the Profane (co-authored by Dean Motter), Night and the Enemy (stories by Harlan Ellison), Megapowers (written by physicist Jack Weyland) and Tempus Fugitive (which he did all by himself).

Ken spent two intense years at Sanctuary Woods Multimedia creating, producing, directing and illustrating The Awesome Adventures of Victor Vector & Yondo, an interactive CD-ROM series for kids. He later produced a three issue comic book mini-series chronicling the further adventures of VV&Y in print.

He is currently working with Lucasfilm, Random House and Chronicle Books producing stories and computer-rendered illustrations for children's books. He is very happily married to sculptor Joan Steacy and they have two terrific kids, Alex and Raymond.

This review is from: Jar Jar Binks (Star Wars - Novelty Shape Books, 1) (Board book)
Well i'm 14 and i think this is a great novel, that i was intially forced to read for an english project....The characters were complex, but Milliron did an exceptional job of describing the life of the main characters and their lives in futureworld Naboo. and it's pathetic to see so many people my ages who 'don't understand'...why because it's 'sooooo boring'..gimme a break..it's a novel!! what did u expect? the movie? please don't think all teens sit around the TV all day and don't care about good literature or don't bother to understand. I loved the part where Jar Jar had his duodenal ulcer operated on.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like Binks! He's neat!, June 21, 1999

This review is from: Jar Jar Binks (Star Wars - Novelty Shape Books, 1) (Board book)
This is a wonderful book for the kids! Jar Jar is certainly the star of the new Star Wars movie. What I like about this book is the way it foreshadows the sequel to the Phantom Menace. In the sequel, Jar Jar's true identity will be revealed -- that of a Jedi Council "Quality Assurance" agent sent around to clandestinely appraise the skills and scruples of potential renegade Jedi knights. We'll see Jar Jar's considerable duelling skills in his light-sabre sparring session with Mace Windu. He'll gracefully parry each and every attempted smote by the formidable Windu, and effortlessly execute a triple pike somersault over the bald black Jedi before kicking him in the gonads with his heel, confiscating his sabre, and making him beg and yelp for mercy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jar Jar was really cool! I liked this book!, June 17, 1999

This review is from: Jar Jar Binks (Star Wars - Novelty Shape Books, 1) (Board book)
Jar Jar Binks is a member of the Gungan species native to Naboo. Naboo is a small green planet that is home to both the Naboo and the Gungans. The seemingly innocent Jar Jar binks is actually a violent, aggressive, maniacal Sith Apprentice. His Sith name is Darth A-Noying, and he was sent prior to Darth Maul to disrupt, spy on, and track the movements of the Jedi during their attempts to solve the Trade Federation problem. This book shows the training session between Darth Maul and Jar Jar prior to their mission... and the true evil inside of Jar Jar: Darth Maul attacks Jar Jar first during the session. Maul is in for a horrible surprise.Showing effortless skill, Jar Jar does a reverse block, easily stopping the double-bladed saber. With glowing rage, Jar Jar strikes Maul in the face with the end of his staff. The training session should be over, but...Jar Jar does not stop there. Consumed by anger, he knocks Maul to the ground. Here, in a rare display, we see Maul beg Jar Jar to stop.
