For years I've used a small piece of rubberized (waffle pattern) shelf liner to assist with stubborn jar lids. For a bad one I am often successful adding a routine of heating a metal lid on a glass jar under a stream of hot water and tapping around the lid. For really stubborn Costco sized jars I've had to go to the garage to get industrial help with clamps, etc.

Some years ago I came across this small strange looking device. It didn't look like it could do much. I bought it on a whim. Well, in fact, it does a lot : IT REALLY WORKS !!!! The problem with opening stubborn jar lids, it turns out, is a vacuum seal holding the lid on tight. This little gizmo simple lifts a corner of the lid slightly to release the vacuum seal. After that "seal" is broken, the lid always easily unscrews with no effort. It always works and works on any size jar lid, no matter how large or how difficult. Actually, it's pretty amazing.

Justin's wife says: This thing really works. My mom gave me one a few years ago and I just bought one for my mother-in-law. It is used on any glass jar with a metal lid (not mason jars). Salsa, baby food, jelly, anything. I would highly recommend for any kitchen, but especially for older people who may not have as much hand strength. It basically breaks the seal, so you can then unscrew the lid easily.

The whole reason jars won't open is due to the vacuum seal. This breaks the seal without damaging the lid so you can reuse it. It's seriously easy to use and beats the hot water and any other method. Fast and easy. Bought some for my mother in law.

This tool does the job very well. My husband and I are elderly and have difficulty releasing the seal on jars. We used to have a butterfly opener which popped the seal when placed under the lid and turned. Searches of the internet could not locate there openers except as promotional gifts. We needed one, not a gross. We found the Jarpop and decided to try it. It works just fine.

The product is easy to use. It breaks the vacuum seal of condiment jars. It does not harm the jar lid in any way. JarPop is a great product at an affordable price. I like mine so much that I bought one for my sister who has Cerebral Palsy.

It is so wonderful to read all the positive comments. I agree 100% Living alone brings with it some pleasures, as well as some losses. No longer having a "go to guy", I have magically found a replacement!!! It works just as easily as stated here. I almost doubted it would work on those Costco jars, but voila! Open, sesame!!!

I can't tell you how marvelous this little plastic tool is. The lids on pesky jars of spagetti sauce, applesauce, salsa, pickles, olives, mustard etc. just pop right off. Amazing!

I have never had a jar opener that is easier than this one - doesn't even bend the lid, everything remains completely usable, and uses virtually no energy to use. Also, and possibly best thing - takes up very little space in your kitchen drawers!

I recieved my first JarPop as a gift from friends for my birthday several years ago, and have given several for gifts since that time.

JarPop is safe. It's simple. Using JarPop requires very little effort; far less than using other jar-opening tools, handheld or electric can-openers. It requires less energy than opening an interior door handle. JarPop can be used with either right or left hand. It is small enough to fit easily in the most shallow kitchen drawers.

JarPop isn't messy like a can opener, and requires absolutely no maintenance nor cleaning. It comes in bright, attractive colors. It's made of high-strength plastics, and is lightweight; if you drop it, it will not hurt you, and it will not break.

JarPop supports my independent functioning in cooking. Because of injury and illness, I must conserve energy, even in opening jars. Methods I used in the past weren't very safe; things would slip out of my grasp, or I'd end up hurting my arm, wrist, elbow or neck instead of getting the jar open. Opening jars is nearly impossible for me without a JarPop; with a JarPop, it's a breeze. It's a durable and indispensable tool in my kitchen.

I definitly recommend a JarPop for anyone with limited mobility, strength, or function in the upper body. It can be a help to anyone with whiplash, neck pain, degenerative or traumatic arthritis in the neck, shoulder, arm or hand, and anyone with carpal tunnel syndrome or a repetitive stress injury.

JarPop is also a blessing to those with fibromyalgia, muscular inflammation, joint instability, easy fatiguability, or nerve damage in the neck and arm. If you have arthritis in your hands, JarPop can help you function independently in the kitchen. You'll wonder how you got along without it.

If you cannot use both hands, you can still use a JarPop. Set the jar on a piece of non-slip shelf lining material before using so that the jar doesn't move. You don't have to wait for someone else to come help you open a jar, or ask anyone else for help. JarPop supports people with physical limitations in doing what they need and want to do-cooking well, eating well, feeling and functioning as wlel as they possibly can.

I highly recommend this product.

I had one of these & still have--somewhere. I have looked everywhere & it is hopelessly lost. And my kitchen isn't complete w/o it. This should be a required kitchen item for all kitchens, especially when you aren't very brawny. I bought 4 of them as many of my friends have never heard of them.
