LCD Clock has problems,
By For this price the coffee maker needs to go back to quality control. I did notice however, that Mr. Coffee has since improved this model with a different clock system... with no backlight. Wonder why??? UPDATE: I returned this coffeemaker to Walmart because of the defects and received the updated newer model. This coffeemaker still has the same sleek design that still looks great on my countertop and compliments my other stainless steel appliances. So far we haven't had any problems. Clock has been working fine and the unit no longer turns off unexpectedly. However, the clock has changed. The previous analog clock is now digital. And it has no backlight. I contacted Mr. Coffee to inquire as to whether this was a defect. They stated it did not have a backlight. It's very hard to see the time unless you are right on top of it. Otherwise you see just the standard digits of "1888". Having no backlight does take away from the look. The temperature control for the warming plate is no longer an option. That was a rather nice feature from the previous model. We haven't had any problems with lukewarm coffee so the temperature seems to be adequate. With these two noticeable changes, I feel the price is too high. Paid in the low $60's at Walmart. When you take features away, one would think cost of manufacturing would decrease, and therefore cost to consumer would decrease. Not so!

I Bought the -1 yesterday from Lowe's at $60.00. I made 3 pots to clean out the unit and 1 brewed pot. NO hot spots on the counter although the heating plate area did get hot. (normal---it's a hot plate). When filled to the glass rim of the pot with water it made 12 6oz cups (always some water left in the grinds). I USE A 9 oz cup and I drink it black so I usually only get 7 cups. The -1 has a electronic type clock and is not back lit. (Could use the back lite as it's difficult to see from afar). Buzzer at end of cycle a nice touch. Brew time is normal and seems to work ok. I'll wait a few months as revisit...Tom..

I also like a previous reviewer bought a FTXSS43-2 at Walmart. In a little over a year I have bought 4 gallons of vinegar to clean it repetitively. The pot leaked from day one. I am moving on to something else with better reviews. I wish I would have read some of the Mr coffee reviews on amazon before deciding what to buy. Buyer beware.

Burning down the house,
This coffee pot got the counter top so hot that I was afraid it would set the kitchen on fire, so I put it on a hot plate. After only one month of operation though, and it was still getting blistering hot, it quit making coffee. I poured the water in the top and it all ran out the bottom of the machine! I let it completely cool off and tried again, but it did the same thing. My husband is glad I'm taking it back (to Wal-mart) because he was afraid we'd burn down the house!

Good while it lasts,
By Problem 1: From about the end of the first year, the dial to control the warming pad temperature ceased to work. It would always default to the hottest temperature no matter what setting you had it on. This lasted for about 3 months before the next problem showed up. Problem 2: It started spilling coffee everywhere while brewing coffee each and every time. I did do the suggested "Clean" each month I've had the machine, as mentioned in the owner's manual. It was definitely inconvenient to be no more than 5 feet away from the machine while brewing at all times. This persisted for a good year and a half before it finally decided to not work period. Maybe I was just given a faulty model. I must say I'm not going to buy this again with the amount of problems this has given me (and reading other reviews of similar models as well) |
