While most digital cameras include some basic photo editing software, users often discover that they need something a bit more robust. Jasc After Shot: Premium Edition caters to this audience, as it offers basic uploading, editing, and sharing capabilities without requiring a time-consuming tutorial or complicated instruction manual.

After installing After Shot, you can decide whether to take the QuickTour or just dive right in and start working. We choose the latter, as the QuickTour requires the Shockwave player, which we didn't feel like downloading. Even without any introduction, we were quickly able to access our images with a single click on the camera icon. After Shot offers easy-to-use options for organizing your images, including photo-album-creation capabilities. You can also sort your images by name, date, and size.

When it comes to actually editing your images, After Shot offers all the basics, including cropping, rotating, and color and sharpness adjustment. There's also a Quick Fix option, which automatically adjusts the brightness and color balance of any or all of your images. The only real issue we had with the editing portion of the product was the following: to remove red eye, you simply click on the Red Eye icon and then run your mouse over the red eye you wish to reduce. When we tried this on a friend's very red pair of blue eyes, we kept getting the message "Unable to detect enough red in the region you clicked on." However, we were able to accomplish this same goal by using the Red Eye Brush, which only added another step or two to our editing project.

When it comes to sharing your edited images, After Shot again gives you all the basic tools--support for online print services, Web templates for creating HTML files and uploading photos, tools for creating screen savers and wallpapers with your photos, etc. You can also create QuickTime movies with your photo album, which simply requires installing QuickTime 5 if you don't already have it.

From the folks that gave you PaintShop Pro, here comes another easy-to-use, powerful, but low cost product. Whether or not you even own a digital camera is irrelevant. If you collect digital photos, pictures, graphics, etc., then you need JASC Aftershot. Cataloging your collection couldn't be easier. Touching up your photos couldn't be simpler. One -two at the most- clicks and your photos are magically transformed from less than perfect to picture-perfect. Want to make a photo album of your pictures to display on the internet? You won't believe how easy it is to make professional looking "theme" albums. I might also mention how much fun it is too. With a couple of clicks of your mouse you can take a stack of photos and Aftershot will automatically thumbnail and resize, plus write the html code needed to publish the album to a web site. This feature is worth twice the price that Aftershot sells for. If you are a PaintShop Pro user, you'll love the fact that Aftershot integrates tightly with this program giving you all the tools at your disposal to manage and transform photos into works of art. Aftershot is a hands down winner. Digital camera manufacturers would do well to sit up and take notice and start packaging this software with their cameras. If you buy just one photo managing software package, Aftershot should be your choice.

My main needs for photo software are 1.ease in downloading, 2. logical organization, 3. lots of printing options, 4. one click e-mailing and 5. simplified touch up and enhancement. JASC After Shot is absolutely the best program available - bar none, and I've probably tried every one available.

After Shot was designed with what I'll call "intuitive logic". That is, it does exactly what you want it to do in a very straight forward way (they haven't forgotten the KISS - keep it simple stupid - adage). Compared to After Shot, all the other programs I've tried (including those from the big names like Adobe) were extremely cumbersome to use. ...

I like to read reviews before I buy a product, but they can be confusing. Some love a product and some hate it. This product might appear to simple to some, but easy panoramas and easy, yet great, web pages should be very valuable to the average user. Those with limited time can create great results.

I definitely agree with the earlier reviewer. The ability to select pictures in a folder and in two clicks have them in a fabulous webpage with novel controls, backgrounds and sized for efficient use on the web is worth the cost of the product.

The range of control over prints is the best I've seen. Better than my photo elements 2.0 picture package, by far

The red eye, crop etc. are the normal tools without complex features with long learning curves. I use Photo Elements 2 or Paint shop pro where they are the best tool for the job. I use this product where it is the best for the job.

This product delivers everything it says it will on the box and more than I expected. Well this was one of those positive reviews, I hope it is a help to some of you.
