Jasmine Trias' Asian release better than the US version,
By Patrick Myers "Jazzy" (Atlanta, Georgia, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jasmine Trias - Philippine Tagalog Music CD (Audio CD)
Jasmine Trias, the lovely Filipina from the third season of American Idol and its second runner-up, is doing well for herself. With a US version of this album released plus this certified-gold album, she's doing very well and is enjoying the fruit of her labors. Her success in the Philippines is obvious, with her albums selling like hotcakes, and in the US -- she's not doing so hot, with 12,000-15,000 albums sold. Why could this be? First off, her album isn't being widely advertised, and she's been popular in the Philippnes since Idol. However, the Philippines-only tracks are much better than the US-only tracks, which makes a world of difference.
1) Excuses: 8/10 Jasmine Trias' first single. The chorus is very catchy, and the song is very much pop. It makes for a perfect sing-along-in-front-of-the-mirror song, if that's your thing. Although not top of the charts, it's worth listening to and enjoying. 2) All I Need: 7/10 This remix is very repetitive, and if you listen to it over and over again, you'll be ready to tear your hair out. However, it is a good song, if listened to sparingly -- I'd advise skipping over it after listening to it three or four times. 3) Sana Lagi: 9/10 One of Jasmine's singles released, and one of the two tracks on the album that have been recorded in Tagalong. Jasmine is best at slow songs, ones with more feeling to them -- and this track proves it. 4) DJ Don't Quit: 10/10 After listening to this track several times since I bought the US release, I realized that the track is infectious and shall have you bopping along to it like a workout on Dance Dance Revolution. My favourite track, and I believe it should have been released as a single in the US. 5) Once Again: 9/10 The duet with South Border really shows Jasmine in her element, and is very enjoyable. I liked hearing her with another artist, and is another favorite of mine on the album. Philippines-only track. 6) What U Do To Me: 7/10 Incredibly catchy, obnoxious, enjoyable, and horrible wrapped into one. How is this possible? By repeating lyrics, having a horrible song lyric-wise, yet making it so catchy that you will never get it out of your head. 7) Can't Hold Back: 9/10 The power vocals we love about Miss Trias have returned, and we can finally enjoy them to their full extent! Athough lyric-wise it isn't hot, the vocals and the "oomph" put into the song smooth it over. An excellent listen. 8) Lose Control: 9/10 The party anthem that was released as a single and with a video in the Philippines. Although not nowhere as fun as DJ Don't Quit, Lose Control is one of the few tracks that really is made for dancing and having fun. Another Philippines-only track. 9) Don't Go: 7/10 Even though I can remember this track clearly in my head, it is one of those "filler" songs that at least every album has one of. Not quite good enough to be remarkable, and not quite horrible enough to be "Yech!". 10) Inseperable: 10/10 The song that made Jasmine famous on American Idol, the song she does so well, and the trademark of Jasmine, along with the flower in her ear. As usual, it is fantastic, and is definately a stand-out track. 11) I Still Luv You: 7/10 Another "filler" track, although much better than Don't Go, which seems to drag on forever. This one has a bit more of a "beach" rhythm to it, and is more noticeable than the other filler track. 12) Just A Fool: 10/10 Easily the most under-estimated track on the album. It has a good "story" behind it, and it is easy to see Jasmine singing it live. A very good track that should be listened to as much as possible. 13) Kung Paano: 8/10 The second and last Tagalong song on the album, as well as the last Philippine-only track. Another ballad-esque song. Jasmine's emotions are portrayed through the track quite well, so even though I don't speak the language, I certainly get the mood. 14)If I Ever See Heaven Again: 9/10 A beautifully written and well-sung song that talks about the singer only seeing "heaven" in their one true love. Jasmine shows her star-power more than her vocal range on this song. Jasmine is a success, and as long as she keeps producing songs like this one, she'll have no problem sticking around for a while to come.

The Filipina Can!,

This is it ladies and gentlemen..The Filipina Can! Finally, the voice and music of the Philippines through Jasmine Trias (a Filipina-American from Hawaii) is in the limelight for all the world to admire and enjoy. Go Jasmine...you make us proud here back at home! Since her American Idol debut, her voice, style and personlity has just bloomed and matured. 'If I Ever See Heaven Again", "All I Need", "Excuses" & "Once Again" (with Southborder) will be her pleasant classics. This is more than just R&B (Rhythm & Blues) but Rhythm and Brown too! The Filipino (Tagalog) songs.."Sana Lagi" & "Kung Paano" are mainstream contemporary Filipino love songs. "Lose Control" is sexy cool! And "Inseparable" is true Jasmine signature..what this Filipina is all about!...only if they could create more songs like this for Jasmine. If you like any of Jasmine, then you will love everything of the Philippines...there's more where this came from!
