I've been having electrolysis (permanent hair removal) and have been looking for an aloe lotion that would help the skin heal better afterward. I have sensitive skin, so I'd been looking for something fairly pure, without a lot of perfumes and preservatives. I've had a mildly bad reaction to other aloe gels in the past, like the green Walgreens store brand.
I just got some of this Jason Aloe gel in the mail, and on the same day I happened to pick up some $3 "100% Aloe" gel from CVS Pharmacy. I tried them side-by-side on the same area of skin. Both aloe gels had a fairly soothing effect at first. Then I noticed the side with the Jason gel got a bit sticky, then a bit itchy... then I looked in the mirror, and the skin on that side was bright red! The side with the CVS generic aloe gel was fine. I washed it all off immediately, and I don't plan to use it again. Your mileage may vary, and I certainly won't say that this gel will definitely irritate your skin.. but I guess I find it hard to believe that the additives in here will do more good than harm for anyone who uses it. Positives: - It seems to contain aloe - Convenient pump bottle - Soothing for about the first 2.5 minutes Negatives: - Much more expensive than the CVS generic aloe (which didn't irritate my skin) - Very bad skin irritation (for me at least) - Somewhat unpleasant fragrance. The unscented aloe is much less off-putting to me.

Seriously irritated my skin,

I also had a bad reaction to this product. After only a couple of minutes, my skin turned red like I had a sunburn. I rinsed it off as quickly as I could, but my skin stayed red for a while afterward. I have used a number of different aloe vera gels, but have never had a reaction like this before.

I am using aloe on for recovery from radiation therapy treatments on my breast. I have tried several aloe vera gels and this one leaves a film on my skin that is maddening. As the gel dries, the film forms and then tightens, tugging at my skin and leaving it feeling itchy. . . not what I am looking for. My husband tried it too and had the same trouble.
