Biography

Harry Manfredini has scored over 100 films. He is often compared to Bernard Herrmann. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good Soundtrack, June 24, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Jason X [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
I think this is a good soundtrack. I had it's moments but I liked the Jason Goes To Hell score alot better! Too bad it might not ever happen Manfredini releasing a CD set with the soundtracks of all the Friday The 13th's he did Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 9 (Jason goes To Hell), Jason X. But he said in an interview on a Friday The 13th website that he won't be able to release all the Friday's he did to CD enless a studio agrees to give him the money and equipment to redew them all because some of the disks got damaged back in the 80's and they were the only copies he had. And there is know talk of Fred Mollen releasing any CD's of Friday The 13th Part 7 The New Blood or Friday The 13th Part 8 Jason Takes Manhatten soundtracks which are the two he did. Although there is a website that sell's a Friday The 13th soundtrack called Roger's Basement. Heres the address www.rogersbasement.com/Cds.htm
I own the soundtrack it is pretty good but don't expect every music cue from every Friday the 13th to be in it. It's mostlly Part 1 and 2.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Tunes, and Tones, But Where's the Original FRIDAY Music, September 2, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Jason X [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
When I bought this CD, I was expecting more of the original tunes, like the CH CH CH - HA HA HA, and the themes related to Camp Crystal Lake, but there isnt much of that on this Soundtrack. The only track that sounds like it's from a Friday the 13th movie is VIRTUAL CRYSTAL LAKE. But aside from that, there are some good themes, and scare tactics. There is nothing much else I can say except, if you are expecting the themes from the Original Friday, don't buy this CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well, it's better than Jason Goes To Hell, January 9, 2005
This review is from: Jason X [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
JGTH has one of the worst, most appalling scores in history. I'll admit had ONE nice cue at the end but Harry Manfredini ought to be ashamed of himself for 'composing' pretty much the worst sounds planet earth has ever known.

I'm pleased to say Jason X is an improvement on that (it could hardly get worse). But it's hardly great stuff. It feels more like a sci-fi video game score from 7 years ago than it does a horror movie. Puh-lease Harry, THROW AWAY THAT SYNTHESIZER! You cannot play it! Where are the gritty but brilliant screetching strings? The strings here are too cleaned up and slick. Thankfully, there are a few brief hints at past Friday the 13th themes and a couple of moments that remind you of the better, more menacing cues, from the earlier films.

Ironically, the tracks that work best in the score are the gentler ones with Hans Zimmer's pleasant guitar strummings and a nice, calming feel. It feels futuristic in the same vain as Jerry Goldsmith's score to Total Recall.

Hey Varese Sarabande, release the scores to the first 8 movies. They were cool and often completely mental. Jason X is low quality stuff from a composer who can do better with an orchestra than he can with Yahama. Pick it up cheap as it does have some slight merit and niceness to it. Just don't expect anything powerful or chilling, which is what it really should have been.
