4.0 out of 5 stars A Soundtrack That Surpassed The Movie
Though, Jason's Lyric wasn't in the theaters that long, the soundtrack did very well; hit number one on the R&B charts, and peaked at number 17 on the billboard hot 100 in 1994. The soundtrack contained three charted singles; "U Will Know," (A 20 year old D'Angelo wrote and produced the song) featuring vocals from D'Angelo, Tevin Campbell, R. Kelly, Gerald Levert, Tony...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Soundtrack That Surpassed The Movie, September 16, 2003
This review is from: Jason's Lyric (Audio CD)
Though, Jason's Lyric wasn't in the theaters that long, the soundtrack did very well; hit number one on the R&B charts, and peaked at number 17 on the billboard hot 100 in 1994. The soundtrack contained three charted singles; "U Will Know," (A 20 year old D'Angelo wrote and produced the song) featuring vocals from D'Angelo, Tevin Campbell, R. Kelly, Gerald Levert, Tony Toni Tone, El DeBarge, Portrait, Christopher Williams, After 7, Intro, Joe, Brian McKnight, H-Town, Keith Sweat, DRS, Usher, Damion Hall, and Al B. Sure!, "If You Think You're Lonely Now," (a Bobby Womack cover) performed by a (solo) K-Ci Hailey, the soundtrack's finest moment, and the Brian McKnight number "Crazy Love." The soundtrack consists with many G-Funk moments; Twinz "First Round Draft Pick," Ahmad "That's How It Is," Spice-1 "Nigga Sings The Blues," and Five Footer Crew "Walk Away." The soundtrack gets bluesy with Buddy Guy's "This City Needs Help," and also contains a latino rap moment with LSD's "Love Is The Key." Tears For Fears product Oleta Adams contributes a Jimmy Cliff cover "Many Rivers To Cross," in one of the finer moments of the soundtrack, and Los Angeles based bad boys DRS contribute as well. Albert Collins and Mint Condition collaborate, followed up by the smokin' "Just Like My Papa," by Tony Toni Tone. Jason's Lyric is a fine example of a soundtrack that surpassed the film itself, and most artists that contribute never had a finer moment.

I believe that this album is best used for when you and your special someone need to get "re-acquainted". The mixture of styles and the flow creates the perfect environment for chillin!

I would like to hear more of the guitar that is playing when Jason and Lyric are having there first date at the Tressel Bridge and when they were in the bayou...Anybody know who the artist is? Title?

Peace

4.0 out of 5 stars The Bonus Cassette Track, July 31, 2005
The bonus cassette track is my favorite track - "Little Girl Blue" by Caron Wheeler and Produced by Keith Andes. I don't understand why the label didn't include this track on the CD. The CD was good, however it was incomplete because it didn't include "Little Girl Blue".

If you get a chance to check out the cassette you will see what I mean.

Not only is this CD an awesome compilation of artists, but it gives a sampling of all the best hip-hop and r&b has to offer. From Black Men United's "You Will Know" to LL Cool J's "Candy Man", this CD has something to fit the taste of every hip-hop fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack but...., March 17, 2010
This review is from: Jason's Lyric (Audio CD)
I agree with Sarah's review....this is a great soundtrack. Much like the "Menace II Society" and "Mo Money" soundtracks, the music is better than the movie itself. I do like "Little Girl Blue" by Caron Wheeler and the CD feels incomplete without it. I've been going through my basement weeding out any tapes that I ended up buying on CD over the years and just don't have the room for any longer and had to remember to keep the cassette version of this just for the one song. I guess back when this came out they could fit more on tape then cd. In any even, good songs, solid release, and if you're a fan of a mix of R&B, Soul, and Hip-Hop then this is a great compilation even above just being a soundtrack.
