Book Description

May 22, 2006 0977320618 978-0977320615
Java for the Beginning Programmer teaches Java to someone with absolutely no programming background. This book focuses on core programming topics such as variables, looping, subroutines, and program layout. This course focuses on real programming techniques, and not using an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to generate code. This course ends with an introduction to graphical user interface programming. By focusing on core programming techniques, and not using an IDE to generate code, the programmer is given a solid foundation in the Java programming language. This book prepares the reader for more advanced Java study, or one of our other Java programming books. Each chapter includes review questions and an assignment. This book can be used either as a college text book, or for independent reading. This book was compiled from the author's years of experience teaching the Java programming language.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Java Text book, July 12, 2006
This review is from: Java for the Beginning Programmer (Paperback)
We used this book for a class I took this summer. It is very introductory, and spends most of the time talking about concepts like loops, arrays, etc, and only gets to GUI programming at the very end. It provided a good introduction into the Java language.

I could never get Java running in the source mode which is the most important thing for any newbie, but this book in the beginning us very clear and explicit. You can download all of the free script examples by the Jeff Heaton website. A very good and most simple + very concise explaining book!; But only one small drawback for me: the as soon as i got halfway (and even looked at the end) I think only the OOL concepts are very poorly written (and edited), but I guess this is common for any author who not knows how to tackle a certain difficult subject and I have had other authors that when learning programming, do this...... but other than that it is great fro getting it running and all of the basic commands are explained and the rest of the book is great !!!!!!!!!!!
