Not your usual Bible study,
This review is from: Java with the Judges (Coffee Cup Bible Studies) (Spiral-bound)
What a tremendous resource Java with the Judges is! I'd read through Judges a bit perplexed, thankful to study the book in depth through the lenses of Glahn's impeccable research and warm writing style. I'm forever thankful for her insights, particularly this: "Even our flaws can't thwart God's purposes." She presents the judges as flawed, earthy folk and rightly points out God's sovereignty and power, despite loving a people prone to stray. I particularly enjoyed Glahn's discussion of women, how she debunks some common myths and elevates women in the process. An overall refreshing Bible study!

Judges revealed,
This review is from: Java with the Judges (Coffee Cup Bible Studies) (Spiral-bound)
Java with the Judges was my favorite of the Coffee Cup series. I loved the background and history summaries. I wish there were more commentary. Ms. Glahn does such a wonderful job with commentary. She has a real gift for putting culture into context. Her discussion on the power of women is compelling.
This study should open up some real conversations with the group. It is so helpful to have the Biblical text printed in the study. I always have it with me.

Outstanding Bible Study!,
This review is from: Java with the Judges (Coffee Cup Bible Studies) (Spiral-bound)
Java with the Judges is the third study I have completed in Sandra Glahn's Coffee Cup Bible Studies. I'll have to admit that I'd approached this study a little more cautiously and, initially, with a little less excitement. But I was soon pleasantly surprised, as I dug into the chapters, at how much I enjoyed and gleaned from this Old Testament study! The historical information and Biblical links to other passages kept me coming back day after day with a studious appetite and a newness of intrigue to learn more from the often-avoided Old Testament writings. Wow, who'd of thought all those stories about people with strange names could turn out to be so interesting and full of knowledge about our God!

Who knew the book of Judges could be so fascinating?,
This review is from: Java with the Judges (Coffee Cup Bible Studies) (Spiral-bound)
I'm just finishing up this study and am looking forward to getting my hands on the rest of the series! With three young children at home, finding time to stay consistently in my Bible is a challenge. But Sandra's style keeps me eagerly seeking to carve out time in the Word on a regular basis. Daily lessons are short enough to feel "doable," yet deep enough to satisfy my thirsty soul. With Scripture text included in the easy study format, this book is not only fascinating but also portable enough to fit it into my lifestyle wherever rare moments of quiet occur. Great study for seasoned Believers or those newly exploring Faith!

This study has it all.,

For the woman who is desires a more in-depth study in the Word of God (specifically the book of Judges), but with practical/devotional applications--look no further! In a book of the Bible where failure to do the right thing is commonplace, Sandra's insightful commentary challenges the reader's own personal relationship with God. The book is perfect for small a group of women who want to start a Bible study, a Sunday School class, or just for the individual wanting to gain a further understanding into Judges. You will be blessed.

The Good Guys, The Good and the Reluctant, Good and Bad, Good or Bad?, Samson the Conflicted, The Ugly... sounds like the cast of characters for a mini-series, right? Welcome to Java with the Judges.
Ms. Glahn's flair for humor, her conversational approach and her scholarly research combine to present Israel's judges as real people. Creative, conflicted, confused at times... Israel's own mini-drama. But Java with the Judges is not just a portrait gallery of Israel's top judges. Glahn takes readers from Biblical observation, to interpretation, to personal application. Yep, even the book of Judges has something applicable for each of us. One final note: Glahn suggests engaging God through this study with all five senses. Using the resources she provides on her website, you actually CAN create your own portrait gallery of Israel's top judges. Talk about a Bible Study that sticks with you!

Once again, Sandra Glahn has outdone herself. Her insights are outstanding, and the questions she provides in this study provoke further insight from her readers. Like others in the series this may used individually or with groups. Her inclusion of Scripture, including that which is relevant other than the book of Judges alone, adds the element of convenience.

Sandra Glahn's new Coffee Cup Bible Studies are a delight! Sandra brings out interesting details and insights in this book. The day divisions and chapters seem very workable for today's busy woman, and having the scripture text included in the book is very convenient...D.J.Martin, Ladies' Bible Study Teacher.

Could Be More In-Depth,

Our Bible study group purchased this guide and used it successfully to study Judges. However, I later came across Gary Inrig's book "Hearts of Iron Feet of Clay" which substantially increased my understanding of Judges. It is not a study guide, per se, but would be a great resource to be used by the leader in conjunction with Glahn's book.
