5.0 out of 5 stars Best java book on the market
For all of you who want to program in Java, beginners and experts alike, this book is No. 1. Many many tips give you not only knowledge of syntax, but the spirit and the concept of the book. It's very good for beginners who need to get to the programmers way of thinking. It's big, but every word is important. In short, it's the best self teaching book I have ever...

3.0 out of 5 stars THE DETAIL WAS EXHAUSTING
A fat book that was a labor to finish. It is designed and written for an undergraduate college course at an engineering school. MANY MANY MANY AND I MEAN MANY problems/questions at the end of each chapter. Problems/exercises are academic exercises to teach java, not real world programming problems. It is not perfect, but there does not appear to be anything better

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Examples, June 2, 1998
Most programing books give you tons of syntax and not enough examples. Whenever I was looking of a particular answer I would find it in the examples.

1.0 out of 5 stars One star is too much!, July 10, 1998

Not for the beginner. The explanations are tortuous. The example programs are lengthy and the point gets lost among all the statements. Legal documents that are more readable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book on programming (period)., January 20, 1998
By A Customer
Very well written text covering Java 1.1... I Especially enjoyed the "MANY MANY MANY AND I MEAN MANY problems/questions at the end of each chapter..." I think anyone new to programming can benefit from reading this book (written to replace C as a started course in CS). I can't wait for _Advanced Java How to Program_.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good intruductory book that teaches programming from basis, August 16, 1997
By
jamesl@cs.ucr.edu (Riverside, California, USA) - See all my reviews
This book teaches the programming from the basis with clear and consise explanation of programming concept and diagram. Author assumes the readers have no programming background and gives a clear and concise lecture on the programming logic, semantics, and syntax. Other advance programming books assume the readers have retained some programming experience or background. This book does not. This is a good book for beginner and those people who start learning programming from the ground. The content of this book is well constructed. It has a tasted of a textbook and is good to be used as textbook
