5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE ONE YOU HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR!, November 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Java Programming by Example (SIGS: Advances in Object Technology) (Paperback)
Java Programming By Example By Rajiv & Vivek Sharma is by far one of the best Java fundamentals book I have ever read. With some 10+ years of programming under my belt, I found this refreshing masterpiece a MUST for the BEGINNER and the ADVANCED. From my experience in real world application engineering, many advanced programmers should reexamine their foundations periodically for correctness of understanding; refreshing the grey matter thereby leaving nothing to task. I have no doubt in my mind that this book would enable the Java programmer to shore up any weak areas in conceptual and practical understanding of the Java programming language, and aid in each's quest to become a 'Java Master,' so to speak. Those of you who pride yourselves on knowing the Java language should have this as solid fundamental reference. Each line of code is broken down and explained from concept to implementation. Easy to understand, and extremely well structured. This work should be the benchmark by which all other fundamental subject type books are measured. THIS BOOK IS A MUST FOR EVERY BEGINNING JAVA PROGRAMMER, as well as for those of us who are in the 'Biz.'

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for learning Java and GUI animation techniques., December 21, 1999
This review is from: Java Programming by Example (SIGS: Advances in Object Technology) (Paperback)
This book makes you feel like you're back in college. Unlike other books, this books is a mixture of teaching Java to novices and good programming techniques. With a little humor here and there to wake you up! The authors explain in great dept the purpose, concept and implementation of their example.

On a personal note, where can I find the source codes covered on this book? I'm not in college anymore, and too lazy to type them. :-)

1.0 out of 5 stars ERROR PRONE and no source files, April 14, 2003

Upfront, in defense of the authors, I will admit that buying the book in 2003 does put it at a disadvantage. That said... The book was obviously "thrown together" with more mistakes than I have ever run into.. especially in the source code. Example: The book references both "the CD included" and a web site to download the files - NEITHER OF WHICH EXIST. The source code listed in the book is full of errors. On the positive side, I've found it to be useful as an introduction to animated graphics; however, if you are a newbie to java, forget it!
